Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: Referee for Friday
Regardless of where he comes from Ben Thaler certainly seems to be the best one at the moment, seems to have a good rapport with the players and he seems to enjoy what he's doing more than the others. Messrs Silverwood, Child and Hicks are in a class of their own :conf:
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

It's intriguing as to what turned Thaler from the worst ref last season into the best one this season. Maybe it's just a confidence thing.
Let's hope that he will be different to Bentham and Silverwood who became very good referees and then suddenly fell apart. Their performances over the last couple of seasons have been awful.
Not sure anyone is ever going to convince me that Child has what it takes to become a good ref though.

Bentham and Silverwood started getting high profile international matches and stated thinking they were bigger than the game .Southern Softy wrote:It's intriguing as to what turned Thaler from the worst ref last season into the best one this season. Maybe it's just a confidence thing.

Thaler always had potential to be a good ref mainly due to the way he interacts with the players . With experience he is now fulfilling that potentian IMO .
