Disciplinary

Post by josie andrews »

FOUR players, including Warrington Wolves prop Ashton Sims, have been charged with offences committed in Super 8s Round 3 matches at the weekend.

Sims has been charged with Grade B stamping on Wigan Warriors player Lee Mossop in the 27th minute.

Ben Pomeroy of Catalans Dragons has been charged with making a Grade E dangerous throw on Castleford Tigers player Ashley Gibson in the 29th minute.

Michael Sio of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats has been charged with making Grade B dangerous contact to the head or neck of Leigh Centurions player Greg McNally in the 62nd minute.

Kurt Haggerty of Leigh has been charged with Grade B reckless striking with the knees on Wakefield player Tim Smith in the 30th minute.

All four were charged after the incidents were viewed by the RFL Match Review Panel, which also issued a formal caution to Scott Taylor of Sheffield Eagles for making contact with his feet on Halifax’s Richard Moore while catching a kick in the 59th minute.

Sio has until 11.00am tomorrow (Tuesday August 25) to submit an Early Guilty Plea. Pomeroy, Sims and Haggerty do not have the option of submitting EGPs and will appear before an independent disciplinary tribunal tomorrow evening.

How many matches for Ashton Sims? Had the potential to break some of the small bones in Lee Mossops hand, IMO.
Nasty piece of work (Sims that is :) )!

1-2 for Sims!!

4-8 Pomeroy

Westwood no charge for high tackle on Bateman!
Details of Charge / Reason for NF Player making legitimate attempt to tackle and makes some contact with head of opponent. Penalty sufficient.

Disgraceful  that was a deliberate attempt to stamp on Mossop's hand & could have been a lot worse if he had connected properly!

Of course we have to move on, nothing we do and say changes the disciplinary's mind in any such matters

At the time I thought "what a nasty and deliberate stamp".

What makes it worse is that the player was not punished for that incident during the match. Fair enough if he had been sent off, that would have been "some" punishment. FFS we didn't even get a penalty is what makes this totally unacceptable for me - just like the RFL hiding it under the carpet!

Without being able to read minds or know exactly what goes through Ashton Sims tiny mind, we can only assume he just had the "red mist" descend. My opinion was that he appeared to step back and saw Mossop still not upright and made an immediate attempt at placing his foot onto Mossop's hand. A nasty, cowardly, piece of thuggery I thought had gone from our game.

Thank you Mr Sim you have proved that cretinous players are still around and hopefully the RFL disciplinary will remember this and give you the huge ban you deserved for this the next time you repeat this sort of crap.
