With Liverpool with only 1 regular team player in the starting line up. And full of under 21 players from the academy some achievement that by Exeter. If anything Exeter should have been favourites considering the side Liverpool had out.

They will get another crack at that side as Klopp already said he will not be changing it that much.

Would be interesting to see what salary those 21 year old Liverpool players are on in comparison to what the League 2 sides like Exeter are on, in addition to the level of coaching they're subject to.
If you also consider premiership teams like Tottenham Hotspur first team, they are full of players not much over 21.

As you say quite a few Spurs players are 2-4 years above 21 years old but its a huge difference to be 24 and 18-20 years old playing against a side who has been together for years.

Most of the academy players who made their debuts will not be earning that much. 2 from that Liverpool side under 22 will be on around 15k week. Ilori who will be gone soon and Texteria who has a future. The rest have just started on contracts so will not earn that much.

On average League 2 players earn around 50k a season.

I would guess some if not most of the Exeter side were on the same or more than most of the academy players. Especially the ones who made their debuts.

The conditions were atrocious like playing on a ploughed field which suited the Grecians. Down here just to get a team of Liverpools stature is something to savour especially for the kids who will be able to say Max Boyce style "I was there " small potatoes for the kopites I know and the minnows will get roasted at Anfield but eh Exeter stand to make a million and the fans get to visit the "Mecca" of English club Football

No they will not Klopp has said apparently he is putting out almost the same side. FA Cup for Liverpool now is the smallest of the 3 cups they are in.

1. Europa League winners now go to CL
2. Carling Cup in the semi and 1 up
3. F A cup injury list and a chance to rest maybe an issue to get knocked out.

Exeter have a chance if they go for it. They should have won at home but last 5 minutes they protected what they had. But a game at Anfield is a seasons money for them and will help them to improve.

How times have changed I had a gym teacher at around 10-12 early 80's who was the most prolific scorer in what is now technically the 5th division and lower.

He was on a few occasions late 70's given options to go pro in the 3-4th division but refused as he was paid well as a teacher and on over 100-200 pound a game depend where he was playing locally. Welsh teams then were in the English leagues.
