Pugsley banned for eight years
Wales international and former Wigan player Rhys Pugsley has been suspended from all sport for eight years after committing a second Anti-Doping Rule Violation.
Pugsley, from Newport in Wales, tested positive for the presence of the anabolic steroid nandrolone following an out-of-competition test on 8 February 2016.
At the time of the test, the former Wigan Academy playerwas already serving a two-year ban for steroid use which was committed in April 2014.
As a result of the player committing a second violation, a ban of eight years has been imposed.
UKAD’s Chief Executive, Nicole Sapstead, said: “Having made his Wales debut at the age of 18, Rhys Pugsley had a bright future ahead of him in rugby league.
"But Rhys has singlehandedly destroyed that promising career as a result of this second violation.
“All athletes serving a sanction remain subject to testing throughout the course of their suspension, to mitigate the risk of them returning to sport and continuing to dope.
"Rhys’ conscious choice to continue to take performance enhancing substances, whilst he was already serving a ban, has rightly been met with a further tough sanction.
"We take this type of violation with the utmost seriousness and our message is clear - there is no place in sport for those who consciously dope.
“UKAD continues to be concerned about the number of young men who are turning to steroid use for performance or cosmetic enhancement. This trend continues to be a serious issue and we are calling on our partners in the sport, health and education sectors to support us in trying to tackle the issue.
“UKAD works closely with the Rugby Football League to ensure that anti-doping education, resources and support, are available to players, so that they can make the right choices throughout their careers to compete and win clean.”
Pugsley is banned from all sport from 3 March 2016 until midnight on 2 March 2024

Don't think the 'ex-Wigan' tag is warranted. We have enough skeletons in our cupboard as it is!

Not sure if he was sacked from the academy before they found out about the first?Kittwazzer wrote:Don't think the 'ex-Wigan' tag is warranted. We have enough skeletons in our cupboard as it is!
Stupid stupid boy!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

If I remember rightly the club offered him help to clean up then that's the last we heard of him, he was still with the academy the first time.

What a clown. Don't have much sympathy for anyone who messes with drugs.
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

An oral pill or drink you could maybe get the benefit of the doubt first time. second time being a much stronger steroid that you inject there is no excuseOJ wrote:What a clown. Don't have much sympathy for anyone who messes with drugs.
Re: Rhys Pugsley
Drugs are widespread in just about every sport. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves. I find it a joke that the Russians are getting hammered when probably every country is bending the rule, Money and success breeds corruption

Your probably unaware how corrupt Russian sport is.
Re: Rhys Pugsley
And protection comes in all different ways. Seems only way forward is to allow doping otherwise we will never know who is cheating or not.ian b wrote:Drugs are widespread in just about every sport. Biggest case was never Lance Armstrong in the US but the Alex Rodriguez one not just once did he get caught but a few times and its only on the 2nd violation it comes out about the 1st one. I would guess more US starts cheat than Russians just they are protected by rules and sponsors. Baseball is rife with steroids abuse.
Russia is once again the bad enemy of the US so they do what they always do paint them as the evil ones. UFC is rife with drugs so is boxing but bans are not enforced as they are by WADA.
Why do you think FBI went after UEFA it was nothing to do with money going missing it was to do with Russia hosint the World Cup and buying it.
As for Pugsly what a prat should be banned for life from all sports.
