WATCH: The harshest ban in rugby league history?
Is this the harshest ban in the history of rugby league? Tyson Frizell has been found guilty of making contact with a referee.
The NRL judiciary today ruled that Frizell’s slight touch on referee Chris James in St George Illawarra’s weekend loss to Canterbury was worthy of a one-match ban.
It’s a decision that has caused outrage across the NRL with common sense clearly not prevailing. Watch below and see the incident for yourself…

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: WATCH: The harshest ban in rugby league history?
Could this also have been the case with Josh Charnley's two match ban?

It's simple though. Don't touch the referee. The players are starting to back chat more and more. We don't want this kind of stuff creeping in. Instead of criticising these bans we should be asking for more bans/fines for the way players are talking to the ref.

Frizell moreorless said 'excuse me' to the ref as he was trying to get past him as he was going off the pitch!
It's just getting beyond a joke if that is classed as 'touching' the referee! IMO anyway.
Is there no common sense any more?

No Josh grabbed at the ref this was a player moving into position that without thought touched the ref.josie andrews wrote:Could this also have been the case with Josh Charnley's two match ban?

This one is a big difference for me Josh got off lightly he deliberately grabbed the ref and talked to him to change a decision. whilst Frizzell touched him and never really looked at the ref.
Grabbing at straws on this one Josie for me Josh should have been minimum 4 game ban no one should grab or touch the ref but the NRL one is not a ban it was unintentional.

Both deserve life-time bans and public flogging.
Footballers spend 90 minutes pretending they're injured. Rugby League players spend 80 minutes pretending they're not.

What happened to the referees decision to march the penalised side back 10 mtr
for "back-chat" ala Gamson?

Seen it applied a couple of times in the last few weeks in the NRL.

This is very harsh IMO he was simply running back to the line think common sense should of prevailed on this one
Joshs' was 100% justified he grabbed at the referee in an angry manner

Re: WATCH: The harshest ban in rugby league history?
It was completely unnecessary for Frizzell to touch the ref though. Why should the ref move out of the way for the player when the ref is just doing his normal job?
