Article in today's paper says 70 year old ex Leeds winger has had dementia for 5 years. I remember him announcing his retirement after Green Vigo scored a hat trick past him.

So sad.

I live just outside 'Arrogate at no 1 and John and Carol live at no 20. They have been friends for about 15 years but I have sufferred abuse in a jocular manner from John for that time ever since he saw my car reg number W16AN W outside the house once on the road.
He has regaled me with some hilarious stories of what went on when he was on tours down under but he has lost interest in the game since it went to Superleague to some extent and has been known to drift over to the dark side and for a time coached the Bramley RU reserve side.
Officially he has been sufferring for 5 years, frontal lobe dementia but before that time I was getting repeat stories that I had heard before but I'm sure that I do that as well!
Carole has been doubly unfortunate as she had the same problem a few years back with her mother and history is repeating itself, the one positive is that as Johns second wife she is a good 10 years younger than him so has some of the strength to generally manage. Interestingly enough she says that although John is well advanced with the disease his reactions are still as sharp as they were when he was at the top of his professional game and she likes throwing 'passes' to him when he is not expecting them and always marvels how he always catches them. Strange disease all round but a nice couple.
