Duo’s departure is not to bring in new signing

Shaun Wane will not be bringing in mid-season reinforcements before next Friday’s signing deadline.

The coach had already indicated he was not looking for any recruits. But this week’s departure of Lewis Tierney and Romain Navarrete to Catalans ignited speculation the Warriors were making space under the salary cap for an addition.

The duo’s exit – on loan until the end of the season –was to give them both regular first-team action, given their expected limited chances had they stayed. Prop Navarrete, signing in the winter, was also home-sick – casting doubts over his long-term future at the club.

Another Wigan player, prop Joe Bretherton, will play for League One outfit Workington tomorrow. Town asked the Warriors to help ease their injury worries up front. And they were only to happy to let Bretherton play on dual-registration terms, after being squeezed out of the first-team frame at Wigan. His last senior appearance was in the 31-16 loss to Salford at the start of May.

Tierney had fallen down the pecking order for a wing spot and with Dom Manfredi set to return this month, a move to Catalans suited both parties. Tierney (right) and Navarrete are in the Dragons squad to face St Helens tomorrow.

Assuming the loans do not give Wigan the option to recall either player, then I am happy that Wane (and Rads) think we are playing so well and that competition for places is so good and that another injury situation wont occur again this season to need these (or new) players

About as shortsighted an approach to the goal kicking and centre problems we have had for two seasons now and no one appears to care (apart from the fans)

If there's no one being signed it suggests Manfredi wasn't registered at the start of the season and hasn't been on the salary cap for the year so far. Now he's almost fit he has to be registered and his salary included in our cap amount.

player get paid more if they play. guarenteed game time is better than maybe if some other player gets injured.

Also im suprised anyone is bothered the lad got lynched on the net ater he had a couple of bad games despite the hard graft hes been doinf for us over the last few seasons.

No big suprise here wane already said he wasn't bringing anyone in. Couple of players could really boost us as well but him and that other bean counter are tighter than cramp!

that has nothing to do with the loan move though, Tierney has gone to get more game time, and why would most fans be bothered, he became the escape goat before he was dropped.

and do you think in any realistic term anyone that can be brought in within a realistic cap space from two fringe players going on loan and available at this point of the season?

our team is good on paper, with some class, the issues is the team on paper isn't the team playing on the field, they are missing someone in the line organising and every time lockers and micky Mac get subbed (like clockwork) our form drops.

this is down to wane and the players not one or the other, alot of experienced player who could step up arn't at the same time, when its such a obvious dip in form when Lockers come off and a drop in intensity when micky mac goes off why does wane do it so predictably.

I agree that the issue isn't the available players now, it is that we are not getting anything like enough out of them. As the coach's salary does not count on the cap, Wane can be replaced at any time. A week on Sunday, say, if Salford turn up with their A game.
