Totally agree. RFL should make it that if a club has a team in the Super League they have to have a functioning reserve team that plays fixtures in a reserve league.

To be taken seriously as a sport you need a reserve grade comp, madness not to have one, credit to the clubs that do run it,even if it is a little shambolic.

scratch my head in wonderment as to then what the kids do Liam Marshall goes on to say third reserve game this season any idea when the reserve season started anyone does it run alongside super league i have no idea? obviously on the flip side the lad has played his fair share of first team then to add Wane wants these kids to drop into first team if called upon now i know duel-reg and that and training with the first team but these kids must have a hell of a lot of downtime to add i do not live in the Wigan area or Orrell where they train hence why i have no idea

You can't have a proper reserve team if the wage cap is this restrictive. Imo the wage cap should be for your starting 17, this way you have a real balance and you can't just field 13 stars since you'll have to incorporate youngsters to balance out the cap

One idea for the RFL could be to create a lancashire and yorkshire reserve team. Make it part of your superleague plans that you have to provide up to x amount of players for it and put them in league 1.
That way all the kids would have somewhere to go, you could even use it as a coach training bed, so some of the newest coaches can get the job for 1 year max to bring on their experience, maybe coaches that are in and around the england setup at assistant level who arent club coaches already

What's to stop SL teams arranging midweek fixtures between themselves using a mix of academy, 'reserve,' returning from injury players, trialists etc. on an agreed basis behind closed doors?
It's how many Football League teams do it to compensate for no proper reserve competition and to give players something different from endless training.

Quite right. It was his idea to scrap the old A team league.
