Wigan Warriors are delighted to unveil a limited edition commemorative shirt which will be worn during the Club’s final home fixture of the year against Castleford, celebrating 30 years since the famous 1987 World Club Challenge victory against Manly.
A re-creation of the kit Wigan worn that night, the new design is unique as the Warriors 2017 kit sponsors are included but in a tonal form - therefore becoming part of the design. The kit will be worn by the Cherry and Whites as part of Celebrate Wigan Day on Sunday 17th September.
Wigan became the first ever World Club Champions after an all-English side led by Graham Lowe triumphed over the Sydney giants at Central Park back in 1987.
The Club went on to win the prestigious trophy in 1992 and 1994, before clinching a record-breaking fourth World Club Challenge with a win over Cronulla Sharks earlier this year. The shirts will be emblazoned with four stars to recognise each of the Club’s world titles and members of the 1987 World Club Challenge winning side will attend the fixture as guests of the Club.
A limited quantity of 1000 playing-weight shirts have been produced by technical partners Erreà for fans to purchase. Each shirt is individually numbered and delivered in a limited edition presentation case.
Wigan Warriors Head Coach Shaun Wane, who was Man of the Match in the 1987 World Club Challenge victory over Manly commented:
“The game against Manly will be forever remembered as one of the biggest nights in the Club’s history and I am delighted that we are able to mark the occasion with this one-off kit. This really is a collector’s item and I’m sure it will prove very popular with the fans.”
Executive Director, Kris Radlinski, said:
“Without the support and great relationships with our sponsors, this would not have been possible. Our partners have been consulted throughout this process and are thrilled with the outcome. I can’t wait to see our players running out wearing this little piece of history.
“With the Jerseys individually numbered it is only fitting that in his tenth year of ownership, Mr Lenagan gets number 1 and or Head Coach, Shaun Wane, gets number 8 after his man of the match performance in the Manly game.”
The shirts will retail at £60 for Adults and Ladies, £40 for Juniors and are available in sizes from YXS - 9XL and are available to pre-order now HERE. The club expects to take delivery of the shirts within the next 48 hours.
All sponsors logos on shirts available from Warriors World will be tonal including the Super League logos.
Wigan Warriors take on Castleford Tigers at the DW Stadium on Sunday 17th September as part of Celebrate WIGAN Day. Tickets for the game start from £22 for adults, £16 for concessions and £12 for juniors and are available from the DW Stadium Ticket Office, the Ticket Hotline and online HERE.
