Vaealiki being released???

Post by Vaealikis Girl »

Hey all!

Just wanted to get your thoughts on something. One of our weekly footy mags down here, Rugby League Week, has reported that Wigan are considering releasing Dave. Just wondering if anyone had heard anything about this over there?

I haven't - I'd be surprised if they did, he is one of the few experienced players here. Perhaps his injury is much more serious than the club has let on, or perhaps the Aussie press is making stuff up?

There are rumours flying about thick and fast that Wigan will release four backs next season over on the rlfans message board.

I am told two will be no surprise and two will be a big surprise. I have no idea who they are but given we are supposed to be "surprised" about two of them then it could be that Dave is one of them.

Why I don't know. He has his critics over here mainly due to his lack of pace but I expected that to improve as he continued to gain fitness over this season and into next.

He is also the first centre we have had in a long time who knows how to play centre and feed his winger. Getting shut of that sort of talent given the fact Wigan's main problem is scoring tries would be a huge surprise.

Finally, Maurice Lindsay said only the other say there wasn't going to be a big clearout at the end of the season.

I suppose it depends if you think four players is a big clearout!

Wouldn't surprise me! I think they have a lack of stories at the moment. It's kind of pick on Parra or anyone who use to play for Parra time in the media at the moment.

I just found it weird that none of you had mentioned anything about it and all of a sudden in an Australian magazine they were saying Wigan were getting rid of him.

Was kind of hoping Parra had seen the error of their ways and begged him to come back  :D

Thanks for the input. While i would like to see him back in Oz (if he'd come back here) i'd hate to see him chucked out of the club before he's really had the chance to get his game back. I still think he has a lot more to offer but just needs to get his fitness back.

I support Parramatta. Looking at the last few years 10 or 11 players wouldn't seem a big clearout

He clearly has talent, but looks unfit and slow. He is a great winger's centre.

London had 10 new players this year, and it has done wonders for them. If we know where to look we could successfully re-design the side.

By the way, VG, Hopkins looks very good at London, not big but mobile and a great line breaker...

I feel it would be a mistake to release him. Since he came he's been our best (and only specialist) centre and he knows how to draw men away from his winger. I think we are yet to see the best of Vaealiki and when he gets some fitness back he has the size and ability to become one of the best centres in SL.

I've not been his biggest fan but I think he will play well under Millward, don't think Betts had that experience to his name to help him make himself at Wigan which is what he needed. Hope I'm right on that anyway, I wouldn't like to see him go sorry Vaealikis girl!

Unles we have a replacement lined up who is better than him, I cant see one possible reason to let go the best centre we have, he is a class above Wild and Aspinwall.
