Tributes to Saints legend Tom van Vollenhoven

Post by josie andrews »

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Tom Van Footintouchoven, RIP,
Fast as lightening, one of the greats.
Not quite as great as our Billy but a proper good un nevertheless.

The RFL should be forthcoming with an appropriate acknowledgement One of three immortals of RL I have had the privilege of seeing: Tom, Brian Bevan and our own Billy "B"

Too young to have seen him play but my dad saw him more than a few times back in the day, fast as a rhyming swear word according to him, and he wasn't one for swearing either so he must have been a fast un.

I trust in due course the RFL will being doing something to at least acknowledge his passing.

As a kid I hated Van Vollenhoven, along with the likes of Alex Murphy and John Mantle. I grew up to realise that I hated them because they played for Saints and were too good.

A truly great player.

Legend has it that it was Wigan who brought him over from South Africa and Sts intercepted him at the airport after he'd landed and got him to sign up before the Wigan contingent arrived.
Not sure how true it is but he was certainly a fine winger.

A truly great player.
Very fast and always a threat to any opposition team, including us.
A sad time for Rugby League.
Tom van Vollenhoven RIP.

i hate St Helens with a passion for my own reasons , but TVV was one of the truly great players of our beloved game, i saw him and Billy B have some real humdingers games against each other.

Rest in heaven with the other greats
Wigan is and always will be a town of Cherry & White
