Shambles
Shambles
Can someone please explain what is going on at the most famous Club in the world.
Players leaving and more being touted to leave, no squad numbers in place , minimal new recruits, no new assistant coach in place.
We are the current World Cup champions and we are behaving like a locally run amateaur side.
The management of the Club is a shambles and my biggest concern is over the hill, look at Saints newish coach, new ideas, stable squad with a true world class player in Barba recently recruited. Their owner is hands on and not scared to make big decisions.
i really hope i am wrong but with two weeks to the first friendly, what postion are we in?
However the players are challenging for a two week break in Aus, what is the point.

Re: Shambles
At a guess we are going to Aus as part of the sponsorship deal we have got from NSW not sure if its worth it or not financially but I’d guess so being IL is a shrewd business man and its hardly a rest playing Hull and the Rabbits.acwrlfc wrote:Can someone please explain what is going on at the most famous Club in the world.

Squad numbers is a minimal thing they maybe waiting to sign somebody before announcing them, players may need to leave to bring quality in?
Assistant I’m with you, I’m no fan of SW but he did rather well with Harris and Deacs by his side and we played rather attractive rugby.

No we aren’t pre season is well under way and the club is going about its business the same as everyone else.

Saints fans rip in to McManus on a seasonal basis and for more of the year than not he is in Hong Kong tending to business. It is Rush who runs the day to day for saints and that is a fact.

Not a bad one, players will be chomping at the bit and we have a few who have points to prove as well as more who will be playing in the shop window to get new deals be it with us or elsewhere. SW will also be coaching to continue in his role as last season was not good enough and he will have been told as much, not sure what’s left on his deal time wise.

Re: Shambles
Maybe its me then I am totally frustrated with the going ones at the WCC.
Even today on Wigan today, with less than a month to the season starting Wane admits to not knowing who is going to be kicking goals.
Add this to the kicking competitions he used to have and then to say bringing in Hodgeson was the best thing he d ever done, you could not make it up.
Maybe I am over reacting but I can only respond to what I see and read.

Just swallow the company bible and smile ac in the knowledge that you are in touch with reality.
You are correct though, the Club is a complete shambles at the moment.

Reckon that's an insult to locally run amateur sides! They are a lot better organised. It's a complete joke shop at the minute! Can't blame folk for not renewing season tickets, complete mushroom treatment from the club....keep us in the dark and feed us s**t!!acwrlfc wrote:Can someone please explain what is going on at the most famous Club in the world.

Re: Shambles
I think that is harsh. People coming and going is exactly what we would expect, we don’t know how pre season is going, time will tell. No numbers is encouraging as it shows we are working on bringing people in, hopefully in key positions. The Oz trip makes us money and gives the players something to enjoy and raises our profile, so there is some logic to it.
My 2 concerns remain that we will still have no attacking flair and the recruitment and training will be irrelevant as our medical “support” will be unable to get or keep anyone fit. I have seen nothing to suggest we are doing anything about either of those things.

I don't think it is harsh in any way. Yes you do expect players to leave. But this is a mass exodus. You would also let them go at end of season not when pre season training as started. The season only weeks away and no replacements and as you say if in pivotal positions where is the time to get the new recruits up to speed with Wigan ways and plays. Also I wish there was only 2 concerns mine can go on forever. The 2 you name are tip of iceberg. poor coaching techniques/ No assistant coach/ Wane still does not no who's kicking goals/
poor player retention/ poor player recruitment (up to now). And many more. So not harsh just not happy with what's going on. With what I have seen and seeing in the last 12 months IL RADS and WANE are not fit to run a coconut shy let alone best rl club in world.

You both have points. But the recruiting is abit of a farce, you more or less know who’s leaving before the end of the current season and the new players( if any) come in are here for pre season.
But I wouldn’t worry about any new players trying to get up to scratch with our game plan, I think an amateur team would have it perfected in about 3 training sessions.

The only one I could understand people having an issue with is McIlorum but seriously, if this counts as a mass exodus then Moses was merely a tour guide.
Not that I don't think there are issues at the club, but some of the things people complain about just seem like moaning for moaning's sake.
I can understand complaints about late transfer dealings and how bringing new players in now seems a bit late since you need team cohesion in rugby league much more than in a sport like football, where they do last minute transfers.
Wane not knowing who will be goalkicker yet doesn't matter one bit. They haven't even finished their training with Charlie Hodgson yet! Williams will have spent less time training so will need to catch up, and we won't know exactly who will kick goals until we see how players do in pre-season. Do people expect him to just name who the kicker will be before any of them have even kicked in a game situation? It's just a complaint for the sake of having something to complain about.
Squad numbers aren't even relevant. They don't mean anything. Why do people even care? If someone wants a squad number or name on the back of the shirt they can still buy the shirt and get it printed later. That's pretty much the only issue I can think of regarding releasing the numbers later. We aren't the only club not to release them and the club probably want to finish their transfer dealings first. That doesn't necessarily mean permanent deals either, we've got a large first team squad so there's a lot of work to be done to organise loans for fringe players.
Poor player retention? Again, surely the only issue with player retention this year is McIlorum and he was allowed to leave.
Poor recruitment? That's a fair enough gripe but not if you're going to complain about player retention. We need players to leave before new players can be signed. Which do fans want, no one leaving or new signings?
Also, the OP mentioned that Saints' owner isn't afraid to make big decisions. Our owner has just made a pretty big decision in allowing McIlorum to leave. That's a pretty big decision to make isn't it, given the reaction to it? It's a risk to let a popular player leave.
I can understand the frustration with recruitment right now. The club certainly have made an error with certain contracts and backed itself into a corner by having players tied up to long contracts leaving little space to manoueuvre on the cap. It's been a complaint of mine for a while. But how does the club rectifiy that without letting players go?
