Final placings in Playoffs

Post by southernpie »

Does it matter financially to say Catalans if they finish 8th or 5th or do the games only matter to those who can finish in the top 4 and get to the semi's with an opportunity to get to OT

Basically what I'm asking is, is it only the Grand Final Winners who get prize money

League Leaders get prize money as well as GF winners. I'm not sure how distributions work for semi-final teams, but I imagine they get something out of gate receipts or TV coverage splits for those games. As far as I know, every other team then gets the same central funding distribution as each other ahead of next season.

That's what I thought, so as the top 8 stand basically Wakey and Cats have nothing to play for except pride, Ull and the giants are relying on wolves, cas or us losing 4 or 5 of the remaining games and them winning basically every game to have a chance of making the semi's. It will be interesting to see the mental attitude of the players in the bottom 4 ie will Cats put everything into the CC now,

Yes. It's a natural problem in all realistic sports league structures that you'll end up with teams than have very little to play for over the last quarter of the season, unless a lot goes their way. Imagine if we do move the Cup final back to May then that could make even fewer teams have anything tangible left going on at this stage of the year.

Now we know Hull and Huddersfield are our last two matches hopefully by then they will be dead rubbers for them and we don't need much to secure 2nd and a home semi
