You have got me confused as well. I always thought that props were either "loosehead" or "tighthead" and Flankers (in union) were "blindside" or "openside"
A "tighthead" prop binds between the heads of the opposition hooker and prop, whereas the "loosehead" binds outside the opposition prop.
"Blindside" of the scrum is the side nearest the touchline. "Openside" is the side farthest from the touchline.

On the official site, it refers to them all as either a open prop or a blind prop, i'm not sure if it's a new thing or not but you'v cleared most of it up for me, thanks.

Its more to do with union then league. League props in scrum are redundant but in union the Open keeps the scrum up as the hooker can see the ball coming in and the blind is trying to disrupte his opposite or get an angle shove in on the hooker.
Both types are diferent to each other in build usually the open tends to be bigger.

Thanks for the clarification, my knowledge of union is limited at best.

The term refers to league as much as union, or it used to anyway. Openside prop is the side of the scrum where the ball goes is fed, when scrums were fed properly the open side prop and hooking were specialist jobs, but nowadays it doesnt mean a damn thing. The openside prop gets to put his head on the outside of the opposing props head when they bind down, so they get the best view of the ball being fed into the scrum, hence the term "head and feed" meaning your prop binds his head on the outside and yuor team gets the feed.

Why does Barry McDermott come to mind everytime someone mentions blind-side props?
