England nod for Warriors

Nine Wigan Warriors players are named across the revised England Elite and England Knights Performance Squads.

Oliver Gildart, Sean O’Loughlin and George Williams selected in Elite Performance Squad.

Joe Bullock, Tom Davies, Joe Greenwood, Liam Marshall, Dom Manfredi and Sam Powell named in Knights Performance Squad.

Nine Wigan Warriors stars have been selected across the revised England Elite and England Knights Performance Squads for the rest of 2019.

Oliver Gildart, Sean O’Loughlin and George Williams all retain their place within the 27-man EPS, while Joe Bullock, Tom Davies, Joe Greenwood, Liam Marshall, Dom Manfredi and Sam Powell are in the 37-man EKPS.

The EPS will meet for the third time this year in early August, maintaining the focus on the 2021 Rugby League World Cup with a shorter-term goal of England’s participation in the Downer World Cup Nines in Sydney in October, before a Great Britain Performance Squad is selected in September.

Kevin Sinfield, the RFL’s Rugby Director who leads the England Performance Unit, said: “It is a bit different this year with a Great Britain squad to be selected at the end of the season for the Rugby League Lions tour, but there is still a focus on England with the Nines, and after all the progress we’ve made since setting up the England Performance Unit after the last World Cup in 2017, it was important that we maintained that continuity through 2019 as we continue to work towards hosting RLWC 2021.”

Anderson said: “It’s important that we revise the Knights squad on the basis of 2019 form, and it’s good that the guys now have the focus of the Jamaica game.”

How come Jackson Hastings hasn't been selected for either squad? I'm sure he is eligible 🤔

Or maybe he doesn't want to play for England in an International capacity?

Should only be eligible if you are born here, Homegrown players only for internationals and if we end up getting our arses handed to us at least it was with a team that wasn't half full of Aussies who aren't good enough to play for their own country

There are no simple definitions of nationality as it's a made up concept.

If you go by birthplace, then Cliff Richard and Spike Milligan would be Indian. Quite a few kids of people serving in the forces or diplomatic service would be German, Cypriot etc.

Under the current system, of course, princes William and Harry could represent Germany.

Five Leeds players? I know they are not too good but those picked are hardly highlights of a dreadful season for such a poor team. Only Walker should have been picked and that along the London player by the same surname

Harry Newman is an excellent young player and worthy of his place.
