Four stand out for me:
Bill Ashurst v Saints, possibly on John Mantle?
Mick Cassidy on Adrian Morley.
Shaun Wane on Billy McGinty.
Terry Newton on Sean Long.

First 2 were retribution, though premeditated and deserved the bans.

3rd was memorable because it happened right in front of us and we heard McGinty's jaw break.

Last one was pure thuggery.

With Tez it was the first game I took my Leyther girlfriend to. She is now my wife.

Can't argue with you being married to a Leyther, my wife's from Yorkshire.

My oldest lad is now 42. The first match I took him to was at Fartown when we were in the 2nd division. I think there were 6 players sent off! Eddie Bowman and Alan(?) Hodgkinson were our props. A black lad in 2nd row for Huddersfield copped a clothes-line tackle - I'm sure he spun round a couple of times.

I remember thinking "What am I doing bringing a 3 or 4 year old to this?"

When we got home, his mum asked him what happened at the match. He said "The linesman had a pencil in his sock"!

I was a Workington Town and Whitehaven supporter way back in the '50's and I remember Mick Sullivan forearm smashing Towns Harry Archer in the 1958 Cup Final after 10 minutes.
Harry came back on, but realistically played no further part in the match. Afterwards he said he couldn't remember the match.
Wigan won by the way...............just!
Harry died in June at Whitehaven aged 85 I think.
Him and Sol Roper were the best half back combination I have ever seen until Shaun Edwards and Andy Gregory.

Vince Moss was the referee, lost complete control.
Nicky Kiss, Les Bolton walked, think the third was Alan Hodgkinson.
Unusually for those days the game was televised, think by Granada.

Think it's on YouTube, or at least it was.

Did Colin Tyrer recover?
I was going to say what happened with Hepworth but he's not worth the question.
I don’t think Hepworth played against Wigan again.
He did, a few years later when he played for Leeds at Headingley . Tyrer picked him out and chipped the ball to him. Tyrer and half the Wigan pack hit him with everything legal and illegal, Hepworth got everything he deserved.
I'd liked to have seen that.

Yes, I remember it being on ITV. Maybe Keith Macklin commentating?
The ref was out of his depth.
