Liam Marshall facing up to a year on the sidelines

Liam Marshall could be ruled out for 12 months after being told he will need knee surgery.

The winger limped out of last Saturday's 30-22 victory over Castleford.

And Lam confirmed tonight - after a 34-18 loss to Hull KR - that scans have confirmed their worst fears.

"Liam has ruptured his ACL, he's going to need an operation so he's going to be out for between nine and 12 months, which is a shame," said Lam.

The coach preferred Jake Bibby and Dom Manfredi in the wing spots against the Robins and also has Joe Burgess fit and available.

Wigan, meanwhile, are next week due to play in front of a crowd for the first time since March.

Opponents Catalans have been given the go-ahead to play in Perpignan in front of 5,000 fans next Saturday, according to reports in France.

Agreed, he was in great form and is real bad luck for him with around 12 months out.

That's awful news for Liam and all of us. Every good wish, Marshy! It's a shame that the opportunity hasn't been there to get young Hanley a bit more battle-hardened, but the consensus appears to be that he isn't ready yet. I can see Lam putting Gildart on the wing, maybe?

This is a big blow,Young Marshall has improved much over the last year or so and letโ€™s be fair now all of a sudden the cupboard is bare on the wing.

Still he will come back stronger no doubt

Whatโ€™s up with putting Joe Burgess there?

Think Dom came back a week too soon if Iโ€™m honest, he was in a bad way emotionally when I spoke to him ๐Ÿ˜ข

Terrible news for Marshall, Hope he isn't brought back too soon like we've seen with others, as for replacing him then put French on the wing and Hardaker back to one, It ain't rocket science

Desperately sad news after he's worked so hard and was playing so well. Best wishes to him for a full recovery.

Surprised we went with Bibby on the wing. He looked very slow compared to Budgie.
