Adrian Lam looks ahead to Wigan’s Round 2 clash with Wakefield Trinity
Lam: “We need to be better because we got off to a slow start against Leigh.”
Wigan Warriors vs Wakefield Trinity, Thursday 1st April, K.O. 6pm
Adrian Lam will be looking for an improved performance from his side when they take on Wakefield Trinity this Thursday (K.O. 6pm).
The Cherry and Whites face off against Chris Chester’s men at the neutral venue of the Totally Wicked Stadium in Round 2 of the Betfred Super League.
Speaking to the media in his weekly pre-match press conference, the Papua New Guinean discussed the need to learn from the mistakes made against Leigh last Friday.
“The nature of the beast is that you’re not going to play your best rugby in round one. We are aware of that and we are aware of what we got wrong. We have this week to get that right.
“The focus is as much on Wakefield as it is ourselves; to make sure we improve in certain areas.”
Although Trinity started the season with a defeat, they put on a good display against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley.
On the opposition: “They played great last week and were unlucky to lose.
“They play a good style of rugby and it’ll be a tough day for us. We need to be better because we got off to a slow start against Leigh.”
Lam also answered questions on the availability of Jackson Hastings. He said: “He will more than likely play for us this week.”
Unfortunately the head coach had to provide some bad news about the hamstring injury picked up by Jai Field on his deut for the club against Leigh.
He said: “Sadly we’ve got the news that it’s as worse as it gets. He’s had a complete tear of the hamstring and he’s going to be out for five months plus.
It’s sad news for the club, Jai and his family and we’ve just got to make sure we get around him and help him through this process. It’ll go fast and he’ll be back soon enough.”
He also suggested that Oliver Gildart would again miss out as he recovers from a groin strain.
