Adrian Lam names Wigan’s 21-man squad to face Leeds Rhinos.

One changes from last week as Bevan French replaces the suspended Liam Byrne.

Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors, Thurs 15th April, Emerald Headingley Stadium, K.O. 745pm.

Adrian Lam has named the Wigan Warriors 21-man squad to face Leeds Rhinos on Thursday evening at Emerald Headingley Stadium (K.O. 7:45pm).

The Betfred Super League encounter will see the Cherry and Whites face Richard Agar’s men after an unbeaten start to the 2021 campaign.

The Wigan head coach has made one change to the squad that faced York City Knights, with Bevan French being included in the place of the suspended Liam Byrne.

Team news

Speaking to the press on Monday, Lam outlined the likelihood of Bevan French’s inclusion this Thursday.

“He will be part of the squad this week no doubt. He’s better off than he was a couple of weeks ago. We will give him the rest of the week to see if he is good to play at the back end of the week.

“We are taking a precautionary route with him because you’re seeing so many soft tissue injuries at the moment, so we’ve got to make sure he’s ok and ready to go.”

Prop forward Liam Byrne is unavailable after receiving a one match penalty notice for Grade B Dangerous Contact in Wigan’s Challenge Cup victory over York City Knights last week.

Injury news

The head coach also provided an update on the progress of winger Dom Manfredi, who has so far missed the start of the season with a broken thumb.

“Dom gets his hand out of his cast in two days time. His physical side is bang on as he’s been able to do everything else [in training]. He won’t be far away.”

Oliver Gildart again misses out as he recovers from a groin strain.

Liam Marshall continues his long-term recovery for a ACL knee injury sustained against Castleford in September 2020.

When was Gildart's injury first reported?

Long time for a groin strain.

Not a bad shout French on the wing! Hanley could be one for the future, but still has a fair distance to go yet IMO.

Be interesting to see how Eastmond goes tonight.

Not seen anything from Hanley yet that suggests he is one for the future. Albeit he has had a very limited run of games and has had minimal reserve / u18 experience in last few years so he does need more time and chances.

I think we have been spoiled in the last 10 years with wingers coming through and hitting the ground running. Charnley, Burgess, Manfredi, Marshall, Davies
