Its too hot to work in this office, the cricket is depressing me and so my thoughts turn to my flight home on Friday for the match as the one saving sporting grace. Am I wasting my money? We will win won't we? What's this Lee Jewitt like?

Hm, according to recent reports, a waste of space! I don't personally know what he's like, I'd never heard of him before this week maybe someone can fill us in.
You won't be wasting your money, last week showed we can fight and hopefully will. Can't get worse than last few times we've played them can it! It's gonna be a packed house and a great atmosphere so win or lose that should cheer you up, am hoping for an extra special win to put me in party mood again, should be buzzing in Wigan after if we win!
And don't worry bout cricket, Freddys batting now he'll save us...147-4 *shakes head at starting line up*

Surely there must be someone that England can hire off the street to break a finger or two of Shane Warne.

At the moment it's England v Warne

By the time we've done an EU-approved procurement, got references, public liability insurance, criminal records bureau checks and all the other things this ridiculous country needs these days even for blowing your own nose, he'll have finished dismissing the England first innings by tea. Daft game anyway, it's just an excuse for 4 days drinking (do they ever get to day 5 anymore?) and you can do that at home.

As someone who hates soccer and is totally un-patriotic, I've been highly amused reading all the complaints and rants from England soccer fans after last night. To read about these over-paid, arrogant, media-hyped "stars" playing badly brings a smile to my face. With any luck, the English media will get so depressed with the state of the national soccer team they decide to watch our sport instead and give us the publicity we deserve (just so long as we don't inherit some of the soccer fans at the same time). Are those foul-mouthed soccer-playing thugs really worth more each week than many of our top rugby league players get in a year? I can't take a team seriously who've had garden vegetables as coaches - swedes, turnips etc etc.

Why the hell did I think you were from Scotland?!
Fraggle, I hope the media attention does switch cause last night was pathetic, very boring to watch they had no idea it was like watching Wigan at the beginning of this season.

great reply fraggle the reason i was so happy for norn iron to beat england was the reasons you have stated. ferdinand earns more in a month than the whole ni sqaud do in a year. like the idea of R.L. becoming our national sport

The England football team is a prime example of having a manager choosing the player & tactics and a separate coach doing the training sessions. If the left and right hand don't work in unison you're screwed. Combine that with out of position players, players arranged around tactics opposed to playing to strengths, lack of desire and you've got last nights performance (
some parallels with Wigan and Britsh Isles XIII sides!)
I would hardly label footballers thugs, you go anywhere near them and they're six foot in the air screaming foul.

There's nothing wrong with the majority of footy fans Fraggle. It's only the minority that cause trouble for others, not disimilar to RL (been a few complaints in League Express recently). Football's just on a larger, more publicised scale.
Unfortunately, all media eyes turned from football to the cricket in todays papers. A cricket commentator was commenting on how much better coverage they were getting and how their sport is on the up, getting 5 pages in the nationals.
