unfortunately we had 4 excellent wingers all wanting 1st team action and all home grown talent. With that situation you cant keep all 4 happy and pay them decent 1st team salaries. In hindsight we would have kept Tom with what has happened to Dom and Budgie, but you cant predict that. We should have retained Davies, he is far better than what we have got.
But we were paying him a pitiful salary for a player of his quality and therefore by keeping him on our books we wouldn’t have had £100k sat in the stands unless it was Budgie or Dom. If that had happened then it should have become obvious that it was time to move one of them on, not Tom. Fair play to Tom for wanting regular 1st team rugby and subsequently getting the rewards at Catalan of regular rugby and salary for that
It isn’t always as easy as “moving one of them on”. I do agree though in hindsight we should have kept him.
