Wigan's Willie Isa has issued a grovelling public apology after being hit with four-match ban for two separate indiscretions in the Warriors' loss to St Helens.

Wigan's Willie Isa has spoken out after learning he will be banned for four Super League matches following two indiscretions in the Warriors' loss to St Helens.

Isa was cited five different times in the disciplinary match review, which followed a damaging 26-2 defeat for the Warriors.

The one-time Samoan international was shown a yellow card in the contest and the review panel has since handed him a four-game ban for a couple of offences, including a Grade C striking charge.

Isa, 32, took to Instagram to voice his remorse, admitting he "completely overstepped the mark" as he failed to control his emotions.

Following the Match Review Panel’s decision to suspend me for four games, I would like to issue an apology for my actions during last week’s fixture against St Helens," said Isa, who joined the Warriors from Widnes Vikings in 2016.

"When playing in such big games, adrenaline runs high but that is no excuse for my actions during the game.

I let myself down, my teammates down and most importantly, the supporters down in such an important game for the Club. I would also like to issue an apology to the players from St Helens involved in the incidents for which I have been suspended for.

Rugby league is a tough, emotional game but my actions last week completely overstepped the mark.

"I look forward to putting these incidents behind me and helping the lads on my return to action following my suspension.”

Utility-player Isa has been an instrumental figure for his club these past five years, playing in their 2016 Super League Grand Final victory over Warrington Wolves, and also in their 2017 Challenge Cup final defeat by Hull FC.

He also featured in last season's agonising Grand Final loss to St Helens, and has racked up more than 150 games for the club since signing, scoring 16 times.

He will now miss Wigan’s next four games, including Magic Weekend, and he’ll only return in time to play in the final match of the regular season against Catalans Dragons, before the play-offs begin.

Wigan currently lie fourth in the Super League table ahead of a home game with Leeds Rhinos on Wednesday night, and still have work to do to secure the top six finish they need for a play-off spot.

I am a bit surprised about this to be honest. Yes he was an idiot but to write a mini essay apologising for losing his rag in a Derby?

Who put him up to it?

It shouldn’t have got to the stage it did anyway. Lam should have subbed him once he’d seen Isa had lost it.

Perfect example of one of Lams shortcomings as a coach.

It should be Lam apologising for keeping him on, when obviously he'd lost the plot.

Bilko was pleading for him to be yanked before he got sinbinned as it was obvious that he had completely lost it minutes before he was binned.
