Lam can defend himself (possibly) but I agree that it's not the time to play KPP at centre, although we rarely seem to play centres at centre. Having said that, among our few improvements this season has been KPP's defence which was a bit ropey at the start but looks OK now.

What centres do we not play at centre?

Halsall has been covering wing - Lam must think Halsall outside Bibby is best option

Other than that I’m stumped?

I’d been curious how quick KPP is since he broke in to the side. He’s shown he’s got power, footwork and a great offloading game. The chance to see him in open field came at Hull when he picked up a loose ball and he doesn’t look to have the pace to play at centre. He was chased down pretty quickly. It’s not an issue with him being a forward but it put him covering centre to the back of my mind.

Well, for most of the season we had Isa and Farrell as centres.

Because Gildart was injured, Hardaker injured or covering fullback and Bibby covering wing for injuries.

Interesting bench choices, some game changers. I'd prefer an experienced starting pack also.
That said, I'd prefer Bibby/Marshall on the wings and go for

Gene Miles wasn’t the quickest centre but he was one of the best. Having said that, KPP stays in the pack for me.

And only one of those is a centre! Bibby is a winger and Hardaker a full back. Yes they can also cover centre but that's what they are doing, covering. Just another example of the shambolic squad management and recruiting that forces square pegs into round holes. I still don't know why the club brought in Field when we had French and needed a centre. Apart from playing academy players who are specialist centres at centre (which is not the kind of thing he does anyway sticking academy backs on the wing) Lam has no choice but to compromise.
