Wigan Warriors have given an extended injury update on the likes of Tommy Leuluai and Bevan French.

Thomas Leuluai

Half-back Thomas Leuluai suffered a torn hamstring in Betfred Super League Round 17 win against local rivals Leigh Centurions. The injury saw the Warriors captain miss the rest of the 2021 season, but after a successful recovery, he is continuing his rehab through the off-season and is expected to return to team training for pre-season.

Bevan French

Fullback Bevan French is currently continuing his rehab at home in Australia. His season was cut-short in May after suffering a torn hamstring in the Round 7 away win at Salford Red Devils. Due to local lockdowns and gym closures because of the rise of Covid-19 infections back home, French has had numerous difficulties with his rehab, but he is due to return for pre-season training.

Harry Smith

Throughout the 2021 season, Harry Smith has been managing a previous chronic shoulder injury for which he has now undergone reconstructive surgery. Following the successful operation, Smith is now recovering and is expected to return to full fitness in January to continue pre-season training.

Jai Field

Jai Field remains fit after overcoming a mild groin injury. Field suffered the injury in a training session prior to the Round 22 game against Castleford Tigers at the end of August and did not feature for the rest of the 2021 campaign. He is ready to return for pre-season training.

WHAT?? So we’ve thrust a 21 year old who clearly has a heck of a lot of talent into the limelight, have asked massive things of him and it now transpires he’s played ALL season with a chronic shoulder condition.

Kudos to him for putting his body on the line for the sake of the club but how could they allow this to happen?

I despair. I really do.

Chronic shoulder issue doesn’t sound good for smith.

And with French, if Covid rules back in Oz is preventing his rehab, which this article says it his, he should be back here. We cannot afford for him to return late in 2022. There’s no excuse anymore. It’s October, he has plenty of time to get up to speed.

Whose guessing he won’t be fit for round 1?

It's good they have identified it it though, they should maybe get in touch with Salford and identify how the fixed mossops shoulder after wigan and parramatta couldnt

Is that update meant to make us feel positive about the new season or, is it designed to lower our expectations? Under promise, over deliver comes to mind!

I summary then

Thomas Leuluai

Should be fit for season's start.

Harry Smith

Should be fit and playing better next season (why did play if he was so bad?)

Jai Field

Injured in training - hmm. Should be raring to go next season.

Bevan French

Odd comments about his rehab - let the rumours commence - he needs to get here ASAP.

Sometimes it is not what you say it is how you say it. The PR from a club of Wigan’s standing is not great.

It sounds to me as if this is beginning to prepare the fans for the news that Bevan is not going to be returning to the Club.
