National Conference League side Wigan St Patricks have announced ex-Wigan Warriors halfback Andy Gregory as their new head coach.

Gregory needs no introduction to his local town, having come through the ranks at St Pats as a junior – he is also an inductee of the Wigan Hall of Fame and the first player to win five Challenge Cup Final winners medals.

An intelligent diminutive halfback, Gregory became the first player to play in eight Challenge Cup finals and one of only two players to have played in six Ashes series against Australia (1982, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990 and 1992).

Gregory has previous coaching experience with Salford where he led them to a first-place finish in their centenary year and again in 1996 when they were promoted to Super League. He was also in charge when Salford reached the Challenge Cup semi-finals.

It is great to see Andy involved at the club where his rugby career started and he will be assisted by long serving and club legend David Ruddy, together with long serving Ryan Baxter, who are taking on roles of assistant coaches and will be supporting Andy with his duties.”
