Post by josie andrews »

In association with Davanti Tyres, here is everything you need to know ahead of Wigan Warriors’ Betfred Challenge Cup Sixth Round game against Salford Red Devils.

Wigan Warriors welcome Salford Red Devils to the DW Stadium for the Cherry & Whites Sixth Round Betfred Challenge Cup game on Friday 25th March (7:35pm K.O.)

Campaign so far

The Warriors and the Red Devils both entered the competition at the sixth round stage as Super League Clubs. Both sides come into the tie off the back of wins in league competition, after Wigan saw off Castleford Tigers and Salford took the two-points against Leeds.

Team News

Peet named an unchanged 21-player squad from the one named against Castleford last week. Though Peet has confirmed that Jake Bibby is likely to return to the starting line-up after missing out through illness last week.

Injury News

Iain Thornley continues his recovery from a grade two syndesmosis sustained Hull KR in Round 1, but has been putting in the hard work alongside the team this week. Peet is confident that both Iain Thornley and Bevan French are nearing a return to the side with the Easter period approaching.

Coach Quotes

Speaking to the press ahead of Friday’s match, Matt Peet said: “One thing we know is that all the trophies we won was one game at a time, one trophy at a time and that’s the approach we’re taking. We draw inspiration from our history but the fact is we need to get our performance right, our processes right and we’re up against a good team who won’t be bothered how many Challenge Cups Wigan have won.”

He added: On whether the team feels any pressure this week, he said: “I think there’s pressure to play well every week, one way or another. Last week it was pressure to see how we responded after France, this week it’s pressure to progress in the Challenge Cup and the exciting thing this week is it’s do or die and both teams will be desperate to win.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
