Wigan squad for Salford

Post by josie andrews »

21-man squad named for Friday’s Betfred Super League game against Salford Red Devils.

Head Coach Matt Peet has named his squad as the Warriors prepare for Round 15.

Salford Red Devils v Wigan Warriors, Friday 10th June, 8pm K.O.

Matt Peet has named his 21-player Wigan Warriors squad for Friday’s Betfred Super League game against Salford Red Devils.

The Warriors come off the back of a brilliant win on the road at Castleford as they prepare to face Salford for a third time in 2022.

Team News

Peet has made just one change to the 21 that made the trip to Castleford last weekend.

Iain Thornley misses out after suffering an MCL injury in the early stages of the Round 14 game against the Tigers. In his press conference on Wednesday, Peet gave a time-frame of around six weeks for the Centre.

Club Captain Tommy Leuluai returns to the 21-man squad in the place of Thornley.

Morgan Smithies will serve the second of his four-match suspension for two separate High Tackle sanctions in the Cup Final.

Wigan squad to face Salford:

1 Bevan French
2 Jake Bibby
5 Liam Marshall
7 Thomas Leuluai
8 Brad Singleton
9 Sam Powell
10 Patrick Mago
11 Willie Isa
12 Liam Farrell
13 John Bateman
15 Kaide Ellis
16 Harry Smith
17 Oliver Partington
19 Ethan Havard
20 Liam Byrne
22 Joe Shorrocks
23 Jai Field
24 Abbas Miski
25 Sam Halsall
28 Brad O’Neill
30 Matty Nicholson

Surely Sam Halsall's time has come - or will we start with Fax at centre and Big Willy in the 2nd row?

We have enough cover to put square pegs in square holes. I would go with the bulk of the side that have already won the 2 big games as far as possible.
Field - Marshall - Bibby - Halsall - French - Smith - Tommy
Singo - O’Neill - Byrne - Faz - Bateman - Ellis
Mago - Havard - Shorrocks - Isa

(Edited to reduce Marshall’s workload by not having to play on both wings.)

If the team is selected on performance then Partington should be in, he was excellent at Cas.

I don't think Tommy will play, no need to rush him back. Similar to last week (Bevan at 1, Jai at 6) with Halsall in for Thornley.

Marshall has been on fire recently but I'd put French on one wing and let Marshall just cover one side rather than both wings

Tommy hasn’t even been named in the squad!
