The England boss has been unable to speak with the Newcastle Knights winger
Shaun Wane has not spoken to Dominic Young regarding a call up to the England squad for the Rugby League World Cup this autumn. Wane says he has spoken to every other Englishman in the NRL, except Young, having only had the chance to speak with his agent.
The England head coach was coy on the reasons behind not being able to speak to the former Huddersfield Giants winger. He said: “I couldn’t get change to talk to him, his agent… well I couldn’t get the chance to talk to him, madness."
We can expect to see Young in the tournament, as he is also eligible to play for Jamaica, but which country he signs up for remains to be seen. However, Wane was clearly frustrated that he couldn’t receive any clarification as to weather Young would be available to play for England.
Young made his NRL debut this season, after joining Newcastle Knights from the Giants. He is the competitions tallest player, standing at 6’7. The pacy winger has impressed for his new side and has already become a regular starter for the club. This led for a number of fans to call for him to turn out for the England national side, however it seems that this may not be a possibility.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
