Victor Radley

Post by Barney841 »

Just read on the sky sports app that Victor Radley wants to represent England.
Would love to see him play for England he is a class player.
Personally think he’s buggered with Wane in charge though

Victor Radley gives Shaun Wane selection headache after putting hand up for England

The two-time NRL champion wants to honour is father and play for England.

Two-time NRL champion Victor Radley has declared his allegiance to England ahead of the World Cup. Loose forward Radley, 24, qualifies through his Sheffield-born father and wants to feature for Shaun Wane's side later this year.

Radley won the NRL with Sydney Roosters in 2018 and 2019 before playing in World Club Challenge triumphs thereafter. He was considered a certain selection for New South Wales in this year's State Of Origin series before injury ruled him out. He has recently returned to action for the Roosters, where he has been a regular since 2018.

It adds another selection headache for Wane in a position where he is already blessed with talent in the shape of St Helens star Morgan Knowles and rising Wigan Warriors talent Morgan Smithies.

It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” he explained. “I’ve always wanted to play for England for my old man. Everybody wants to do the right thing by their dad, don’t they?

“Dad’s proud of where he’s from, proud of his family, proud of supporting Sheffield Wednesday. This was a gut feeling that it’s what I want to do – and with the World Cup coming up in England at the end of this year, it was now or never.

If I ended up sitting there watching the World Cup and knowing I could have been playing for England – that wouldn’t have felt good.”

Commenting on the news, Wane insisted Radley would have to play his way into the setup. “I’ve always said that I’m open to selecting players who want to represent their English heritage – but they have to be outstanding in their position, and 100% committed.

I rate Victor Radley very highly as a player, and he’s a great addition to the options we have in a position where we have some really strong contenders. We need quality in depth in every position, and Victor is a big addition to that.

“He now joins the group we already have playing in the NRL who will be part of our preparations for the World Cup. We’re in regular touch, sharing a lot of information with them, to make sure they’re all ready to be part of our squad if they’re selected.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

The aussie press has been less than complimentary about his choice

Shows how good he is.
James Graham is right, he’s one of the best 13’s in the NRL

Doesn't that stop him playing Origin? I thought that that was the stumbling-block?

Yeah, he has waived his right to play for NSW again. https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-pr ... 414d8fccdd
