Wigan Warriors have announced the addition of Steve Walsh to the club's backroom staff at the JJB Stadium.

Steve has been appointed as Fitness Coach and will deal with all aspects of players strength and conditioning. Walsh joins the Warriors from Leeds Rhinos.

Oldham-based Walsh began his career with Wigan under Graeme West before moving on to Halifax and then Leeds.

Walsh has a vast amount of experience within the game and it is hoped that he can play a part in preventing the amount of injuries which required 12 players to have surgery in 2005.

Speaking about the appointment, Wigan Chairman Maurice Lindsay said: "We are delighted to have Steve on board. He has a vast amount of experience within the game and he will be a tremendous addition to our staff.

“We had a huge list of players with serious injuries last season and with Steve's knowledge we are hopeful that we can take preventative measures to stop this happening again. Steve is at the top of his field within the game."

Walsh added: "I am looking forward to the new challenge and it's great to be back at the club where I started.

“Wigan are a magnificent club and this is a great opportunity to work with one of the top coaches in the game in Ian Millward."

Hope he can solve our problems! Good sign...He was at Leeds, who have been one of the most injury-free sides in SL recently.

Forgive me for the following sexist comment but,can we get the Bradford physio how hot is she it might mean more injuries but at least when we lose a player during the game we will have somthing to entertain the male section of the fans.
Sorry had to get that off my chest.

Id have at least 3 groin strains in a game if she was my physio......even if there was blood pumping from the head!

I would cheer for injuries if she was there!! Shouldnt say that really but they seem to have a good backroom setup in Bradford because when the players come back they look ready to do the busines unlike our lot.
New season new setup so lets hope for more because i wouldnt let her leave if i were Bradford so will have to wait till we face them again.Damm

So Wigan's Dr Zaman doesn't float your boat then?!

Although, to be fair to the good doctor, it's not him but Nigel Ineptly Jones who's was physio for most of the last few years and who surely has to take at least some of the blame for the injuries and for players coming back half-fit and often getting injured again straight away (although I suspect the fact we've usually had 10-11 missing players and needed to get anyone even 40% fit back in the squad hasn't helped with that!). Now that he's gone it will be interesting to see if things improve next season.

Nothing against our fluffy friends but the good Doc isnt high on my list of eye candy, more inclined by the full figured blond hair than our dark mysterious Doc.
I suspect you are right about losing so many players so we have had to patch them up and send them back but if you ask me it was a short term view we should of fielded younger players to allow the experianced players to come back.On the flip side ten weeks agoit was relegation talk so it is easy for me to sit here at the end of the season and say this rather than make the decision that there jobs and the clubs future relied on.We ended up playing youngsters anyway but e dont have the gift of hindsight
