Peet: “There’s no doubt some of the lads you’ve seen will be regulars in the next two or three years.”
FT | Hull KR 38-28 Wigan Warriors

After falling to defeat to Hull KR on Monday afternoon Head Coach Matt Peet shared mixed emotions and believed his youthful Wigan Warriors had the chance to win the game.

Peet gave debuts to seven Wigan players and his side were not short of effort, scoring five tries in an entertaining game at Sewell Group Craven Park.

Speaking at full time, Peet said: “Proud and frustrated in equal measure. We can look back at the performance in two ways – pride and we know we’ve got some players for the future. Frustration that we didn’t do enough for the win because it was there for us.

“The major lesson will be having that belief a bit more. We continued to compete which is something we expect and they delivered on.

“There’s no doubt some of the lads you’ve seen will be regulars in the next two or three years.”

Wigan-born Oliver Partington Captained the side for the first time, with Peet commenting: “He’s a great member of the Club. He leads by example.”

The boss also gave praise to Ben O’Keefe and Jack Bibby who both scored their first senior tries on debut: “Those were the highlights. A few things Logan [Astley] and Umyla [Hanley] did too. There’s loads of positives, I just know we could have got more from the game.”

In an update on injuries and squad news ahead of Friday’s final regular Betfred Super League game against Catalans Dragons, Peet said: “Liam Farrell has had a scan and we are waiting to speak to a consultant this week. We are healthy – Ethan Havard came back today, Tommy Leuluai could be back on Friday and Sam Powell is not far off too.”

He added: “It’ll be our strongest team against Catalans.”

I was proud of all of the lads today 😊 Some of the decisions left a lot of people, as well as the players of both teams I think, a bit bemused!

Miski’s defence left a lot to be desired!

Yes they stuck to their guns despite getting bullied early on and came back strong in second half, as josie said they got a couple of dodgy calls from Kendall one when he stopped a clean break for us to give us a penalty in our own half. Overall a good performance with lots of positive’s

Be as tad annoying if saints lose to Toulouse
