I might be wrong but 99% of time if Sam is in the team he is considered a 80min player so Peet wont see the need to directly cover 9
Shorrocks is shocking at 9.
We look so slow from the ruck where he plays there
Oh I completely agree! But I’m just going off what Peet has done in the past I would see him unlikely to change tact now

Yeah I know.
We miss having a proper hooker on the bench though.
Those last 20mins you bring a fresh hooker on against opposition defence that is getting tired, better chance of reeking havoc and catching them on the back foot. We miss that

Powell: Stay fully focused

Sam Powell says Wigan have to ‘stay fully focused’ as they prepare to face Leeds Rhinos in the Play-Off Semi Final.
Powell: “We’ve just got to go out, nail our game plan and leave nothing out there.”
Hear more from Sam Powell ahead of Friday’s game HERE.
Sam Powell offered his thoughts ahead of Friday’s Betfred Super League Play-Off Semi Final.

Powell returns to the squad this week after being sidelined for a number of weeks with a foot injury: “It was very frustrating to get injured at such a crucial time but I’m grateful that I’m back in contention and have been able to train with the lads again for the past couple of the weeks and the foot feels great.

Just being able to have the extra three training sessions has been big for me, the timescale was a bit longer than I wanted. I was hoping to get a little bit of Rugby in, maybe the Catalans game but it didn’t make sense to push it and if I’d have done further damage it would’ve put me out for the year.”

Ahead of Friday’s game, Powell said: “It’s a massive game for us, I don’t think we could have prepared much better for it as a team, we’re missing Faz [Liam Farrell] which is big but we have a great set of lads and I don’t think we’ll leave much out there.”

He added: “They’ve got some good combinations going and they’re playing some good rugby. They beat us [in our last meeting] which is a bit of motivation for us, we’ve just got to go out, nail our game plan and leave nothing out there.”

If selected, Powell will make his 250th appearance for the Club. On the milestone he said: “It’s a great personal goal and one that myself and my family are really proud of. It’s thanks to the Coaches that I have had in the past and the players that I’ve played with, it’s gone really quick and I can’t wait for Friday.

“Highlights – debut, trophy wins. The Grand Finals, World Club Challenges, it’s all been great, I just hope that there’s a few more yet.”

Finally, Powell commented that he hopes the team do the fans proud as they prepare to play at the DW Stadium for the final time in 2022: “They’ve been great [the fans], I think from the beginning of the year when we started the integration with the Community there’s been a real good buy-in, the buzz around the place on fan day is awesome, my kids love coming to game day. I just hope the fans turn up in numbers on Friday and that we can do them proud.”

After his period on the sidelines it would be too much to ask Powell to play 80 minutes, the same applies to Tommy. I can see all three interchanging at some point with experience looking to close out the game. I go for Brad to start against O’Connor.
I don’t think Brad will be in the 17 I suspect we will go with shorrocks on the bench to cover 9 if needed
It will be interesting to see how the thoughts of the coaching staff unfold and which one of us, if either is right. This is what makes RL so great there can be a myriad of views on tactics, selection and performance.

Wigan Warriors: Matty Peet praises Sam Powell's consistency ahead of his 250th appearance for the club

Matty Peet says Sam Powell is the type of player that every coach dreams of having.

The hooker is set to make his 250th appearance for Wigan Warriors in Friday’s play-off semi-final at the DW Stadium.

Peet states Powell is always aiming to improve his own game and help those around him at the club.

“He’s a dream, day in, day out,” he said.

“I think in sport, the word consistency can get a bad rep, but for me what you want in a friend and teammate is consistency.

“From day one in pre-season to now, you know exactly what you are going to get.

“He’s engaged in everything you do, he’s present and has opinions, he looks after people, trains hard and has a smile on his face.

“He’s exactly what we want from a member of this club. He’s consistently improving himself and the organisation, day in, day out.”

The above bothers me though - it would be great if Powell was a member of the backroom staff or whatever but it just seems to further cement the theories on here that he is just "one of the boys" and beyond judgement on his playing abilities by "being a nice guy".

My issue is - i could do all the things MP mentions in that summary of a player - its like everything that Powell is known and loved for is stuff he does off the pitch

He's been told to by the owner, The End
Do you genuinely believe that?
It is the only plausible reason, we have been playing so well without him, why would you risk the current form by inserting him back into the team at such an important part of the season, H e surely can't be match fit
He can only be fit for for the final against Salford if he plays in the semi :D
