I thought so too 😂
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Ex-Huddersfield Giants man Dom Young on Kallum Watkins partnership and playing in England again

To anyone who follows the NRL, Dominic Young’s performance for England last night was not a surprise at all.

We saw Young channel the form we’ve seen from him at Newcastle Knights all season into a devastating performance yielding a try and two assists in the first half.

Playing in England for the first time since leaving Huddersfield for Newcastle in 2021, it was a lovely moment to play in front of his family especially seen as though the last time he played in England it was during lockdown: “I loved it out there to be honest. It’s been a while since I was out in front of England fans and my family. I loved it.”

Young and centre Kallum Watkins formed a killer partnership down the right which will be hard for coach Shaun Wane to break up despite the fact Tommy Makinson is a predominately right winger and will likely return to the side after being rested for this game.

On Watkins, Young said on the OurLeague app: “We had a bit of space on that edge and we managed to take advantage of it. Playing outside a class player like him only makes me look better so I want to play outside him and hopefully we can build on that next week.”

He then went onto reflect on the performance as a whole: “I think it was a good performance. They’re a big set of lads, we knew they were going to come out and front up but we were really clinical. I thought it was a good performance by the boys.”

When further elaborating on this, he opened up on what he felt Wane wanted and whether England delivered: “I think he just wanted to see how much it meant every time the boys put on the shirt. How much it means, we’ve not had too much time together so that’s what you build the game on. That’s what he wanted to see and I think that’s what he saw.”

“Really excited, it’s going to be a massive test.”
