It’s that time of the year where clubs start to tease their fans with what’s to come for 2023. Kits are starting to be released and squad numbers always spark debate on social media.

Today, it is Warrington Wolves’ turn to reveal who is wearing which number on their back next season, ahead of their kit launch this evening.

The biggest change is mid-season signing, Matt Dufty, who has taken the number one jersey, replacing Stefan Ratchford who has donned the shirt since 2017.

Utility back Rachford has switched to number four. He is a capable centre, playing there over 40 times for both Salford and Warrington, but a permanent switch to that position in 2023 now looks a strong possibility.

Meanwhile, youngster Josh Thewlis has deservedly been given the number two jersey, after deputising well for Josh Charnley. The 20-year-old scored nine tries is 19 appearances last term.

Another big mystery is the number seven, or more specifically a lack of a number seven. The shirt has been left vacant after Gareth Widdop’s departure to Castleford so it seems Wire are waiting for a signing to take the spot, with strong reports it will be former Catalans halfback Josh Drinkwater.

New signings Paul Vaughan, Josh Maguire, Sam Kasiano and Gil Dudson have taken the number 10, 13, 14 and 17 spots respectively, with last year’s mid-season signing Tom Mikaele taking 18.

Numbers 22-33 are all taken by homegrown, academy products that include the likes of Riley Dean, Luke Thomas and Leon Hayes who all featured in Super League last year.

Warrington Wolves 2023 squad numbers:
1. Matt Dufty
2. Josh Thewlis

Not a lot of depth there.

Not a great looking back line.
Williams has shown his worth in the WC but even with Drinkwater in there those backs look decidedly mediocre.

Warrington Wolves reveal home and away shirts for 2023 season

Warrington have reverted back to a white home shirt for the 2023 season.

The new number is a slick design, that features their other traditional colours, primrose and blue, across the middle.

O’Neills have rarely let Wire fans down with their kits over the years, but this latest release promises to have the most positive response yet.

The kit strikes resemblance to the classic 1980s Wilderspool-era strips on the 20th anniversary of the club’s move from the old Fletcher Street ground.

Meanwhile, the Wire have opted for a striking petrol blue colour for their away shirt, with diagonal inward lighter blue shapes on either side.

The shorts and socks are also petrol blue as the Wolves hope that a new look can bring greater success on the road in 2023, having struggled with their away form through the last campign

The Wolves will don their new kits looking for better success in the new season, as Daryl Powell prepares for his second year in charge at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Warrington underperformed in 2022 and eventually finished the campaign second bottom of the Super League table, despite ambitions of challenging for silverware prior to the campign.

They will have a host of new signings for next season though, in a new-look side that features some household names from Super League and the NRL, and that new-look side will also now be complimented by two new-look kits.

Warrington fans can purchase their new kits on the club’s official online shop here.

Liking the look of those, the away shirt would look good in cherry and white imo

It’s the players that wear the shirts that counts.
