Warrington Wolves have received a huge blow with prop Thomas Mikaele set to leave the club following their Super League clash with Hull FC. The forward, who has been immense for the Wire during their unbeaten start to the season, is set to be granted an immediate release from the club due to family-related issues.

He will play for the Wolves in Saturday's game against the Black and Whites but that will act as his farewell, less than 12 months since joining the Super League club. The former Wests Tigers man has enjoyed a superb start to the season and his departure is a big loss to Daryl Powell's side.

He is expected to move to Gold Coast Titans upon his return to Australia. Warrington are set to command a transfer fee for his services, according to Rugby League Live sources. While that figure isn't known, the Wolves are set to hold out for a fee, with Mikaele under contract until the end of 2024.

Family issues are believed to be the reason for his departure. His partner is understood to be homesick which has contributed to the challenge of acclimatising in the UK. Mikaele himself is believed to have loved his stay in Super League but has ultimately had to put family first. He has made 85 metres per game this season, scoring three tries.

Powell himself didn't go as far as confirming his exit but acknowledged the current situation. “I expect him to play on Saturday. Obviously there is a little bit of news out there on Tommy, but I’ve got nothing to say at the moment. He will play on Saturday and then we will take it from there.”
