Castleford Tigers close in on incredible Blake Austin deal as Leeds Rhinos career comes to an end

Blake Austin is on the verge of a shock move...

Castleford Tigers are closing in on the shock signing of Blake Austin for the rest of the Super League season. Rugby League Live can reveal the relegation-threatened club has held talks with the Rhinos about a loan move and it’s understood that the Tigers are now very confident they will get a deal done before the transfer deadline.

Austin’s future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks, with the halfback being open in discussing his future. However, it now appears he could have played his final game for the club, with a move to the Jungle in the works.

It’s the latest twist in the relegation battle that has seen both the Tigers and Trinity reinforce their squads in recent weeks. But the arrival of Austin could prove to be a game changer for the Tigers with just seven games of the season remaining. It’s unclear if he will be registered in time to debut against Huddersfield Giants on Friday.

If the move is finalised it will bring an end to Austin’s 18-month spell at Headingley. The halfback appeared increasingly likely to depart as discussions continued to roll on. He entered the open market several months back and among the interested parties for next season are Featherstone Rovers. It’s unclear if the Tigers’ interest goes beyond the end of the year.

Castleford have a free quota spot after loaning Albert Vete to League 1 outfit Doncaster while they have already brought in the likes of Jordan Johnstone, Alex Foster, Liam Horne, Charbel Tasipale and Billy Tsikrikas.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Hardly fair on Wakey. Looks like a stitch up between Leeds and the Tigers.

Don’t think it’s a stitch up, if you watch Austin’s recent interview with them 2 twin lads, think one was an ex manly player? But Austin was very critical of uncle Gary and how he handled the game between Leeds and the touring NZ team from World Cup, he said that they’d been on lash in Ibiza and Gary said all first team players had to be available or there contracts could be torn up, Rhys Martin asked to be allowed game off as he was playing in World Cup and Gary apparently got his contract out and read it word for word, I think that’s what’s caused this, and he stresses he wants to go back to NRL and be a no.14 coming off bench
