LEEDS RHINOS are eyeing up the immediate signing of Wigan Warriors playmaker Cade Cust.

The Australian, who won the Challenge Cup with Wigan back in 2022, is out of contract at the end of the season and with Leeds losing Blake Austin on loan to the Castleford Tigers, head coach Rohan Smith is determined for new blood before the deadline ends today, League Express understands.

Cust is just 24 years of age and so fits the bill as a younger playmaker, with remaining Rhinos halfback Aidan Sezer also linked with a move back to the NRL.

Though Cust played a key role in Wigan’s charge to the Challenge Cup success in 2022, he has played more of a bit-part role in 2023, accruing 39 appearances all in all.

However, with the Warriors bringing in Kruise Leeming for 2024 and beyond and with Brad O’Neill etching a long-term deal, the chances for Cust are slim.

Cant see it happening, doubt we let anyone leave immediately without a replacement coming in immediately

Posted on here weeks ago he was going leeds. It will happen For next season if not immediately.

we have French who now seems to be preferred no 6, with Hampshire and Field and worst case Shorrocks as back up
O'Neill seems to be 1st choice 9, not sure on how long before Powell back from injury, or if we can recall Forber from his loan at Widnes

it also removes a quota player immediately and gives us some cap space if we can then get someone else in for the rest of the season

What about, if they want Cust immediately then they send Sam Walters immediately in exchange?

Cade Cust will remain with Wigan Warriors beyond today’s transfer deadline.

Reports have linked the 24-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, with an immediate move to Leeds Rhinos, with Rohan Smith looking to boost his squad.

Wigan Today understands there is no truth behind the rumours and Cust will not be released from his current deal with the Warriors- who take on Hull KR at the DW Stadium this evening.
