Matt Peet has named his 21-man squad for Saturday’s Betfred Super League game against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley Stadium (2:45pm K.O.)

Peet has made one change to his 21-man squad for Saturday, as Tyler Dupree is back available following a failed HIA and replaces Harvey Makin.

Tickets for the Saturday’s double header at Headingley Stadium are available HERE. Our Women’s team kick-off the day at 12:15pm before our Men’s team take on the Rhinos at 2:45pm.

It’s good that we are playing after Cats and Saints, as it will ensure we know exactly what we need to do to consolidate our position. Hopefully we will play the rubbish version of Leeds rather than the dangerous one.

Wardle Previews Leeds

Jake Wardle looks ahead to Saturday’s Super League clash against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley Stadium.

Wardle: “We need to take things week-by-week which starts by giving it our all against Leeds and after that we can then focus on the next game.”

Centre Jake Wardle says things must be taken ‘week-by-week’ as Wigan Warriors prepare for Saturday’s Super League clash against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley Stadium.

The Warriors climbed to the top of the Super League table on points difference following a 26-8 win over Salford Red Devils at the DW Stadium last time out, and the Cherry and Whites will be looking to remain at the top come the end of the Round 25 matches.

Looking ahead to the clash with Leeds Rhinos, Wardle said: “We’re expecting a lot of energy as they’re still in a position where they’re fighting for the top six. They’re going to offer a lot with ball in hand as well as testing us defensively so we need to make sure we are on it mentally and at the top of our form.

“We had a really good session this morning and we’re all very positive going into this week. We’ve got three big games to go but we don’t want to look any further ahead than Leeds as we know the challenge we will face.”

Wardle has scored 10 Super League tries so far this season, which includes four in his last four appearances. On the scoring run, he said: “The way we’ve been playing has given me more opportunities to finish off tries. For me though it’s not about the tries, but just playing as consistently as I can and hoping that tries can come off the back of that.”

The Warriors have won their last five Super League matches, and on confidence, Wardle said: “The belief we have as players and individuals comes from the belief Matty and the other coaches have instilled into us. It’s just been about backing our ability and I’m hoping the confidence and consistency is showing.”

The Warriors were beaten in golden point to Hull KR in the Challenge Cup semi-final on their last visit to Headingley Stadium, however, Wardle believes the defeat has played a part in the recent change of form.

He said: “Losing the semi-final in that way hurt. Each person in the squad took it personally and as a group we came together to set a few goals which we’re all buying into. Our performances haven’t been perfect by any means, but we’re all turning up for each other in our performances.”

Looking ahead to the final three rounds of the regular season, Wardle said: “For us now it’s just about being psychologically right. We know what we can do on the field so it’s just about being there mentally. We need to take things week-by-week which starts by giving it our all against Leeds and after that we can focus on the next game.”

Speaking on his time at the Warriors so far, Wardle said: “It’s a great club and I’d like to hope that my performances are showing just how much I’m enjoying my time here which is credit to the lads, the coaching staff, and the fans.”

Travelling to Headingley Stadium

Turnstiles for this game will open before kick-off of the Women’s game that kick-starts the double-header (at 11:45am) so please plan your journey accordingly and allow plenty of time to arrive at the stadium to help with the safe entry for all spectators into the ground.

Car Parking

There is no parking available at the stadium and all parking is on street.

Please remember, Headingley Stadium is situated in a residential area and we ask that you ensure you respect neighbours when arriving and departing the stadium for matches.

Please ensure if you are parking your vehicle in the surrounding streets that you do it sensibly, you dispose of any waste responsibly, and finally, remain on public highways and keep noise levels to a minimum.

Away Fan stadium access

All away fan access is through the Kirkstall Lane (Gate G) turnstiles which is stated on the tickets that have been purchased directly through your ticket office / club shop.

If travelling on your official club travel, you will be parked on Beechwood Crescent allotments, and you will be able to access the stadium by crossing the small railway bridge. Once across the bridge head up the pedestrian footpath in between Gate F and Gate E which will lead you straight to Kirkstall Lane (Gate G) turnstiles.

Searches and bag policy

Away supporters are advised that Leeds Rhinos operate a search and bag policy at Headingley Stadium. Entry to the stadium may take longer and as a result it is likely that queues may occur, however, we will do all we can to keep things moving. We request that supporters do not bring bags to the stadium, to avoid these search processes.

Small bags (no larger than an A4 piece of paper) will be allowed on match day. These will be subject to searches at the turnstiles. Please do not bring anything larger than this as you will not be allowed to bring it in. If you require a larger bag for medication purposes, please contact tickets@therhinos.co.uk in advance of match day.

Leeds are an easy team to beat but also easy to lose against

All you need to do is do the basic's well - they aren't a good team IMO if you play smart and keep focused you don't have to chance too much they will give you opportunities

however if you let them in and then start to play lose that suits them and they suddenly come to life and they can score heavily quickly

They are bit like a bad boxer with a good punch, box smart and use your skills its an easy night - get into a brawl and you play to their strengths

Play to our strengths.

Leeds will be looking to maximise their offloading game which killed us at our place.
They will have looked at our cut out pass to Miski and same to Marshall. Handley will be eyeing an interception as will Newman on the other side of the field.

We can win it with the strength of our pack and their forwards I don't think will be able to cope with the intensity of our lads. Harry's field kicking is the best and could put them on the back foot from the start.
Win this and the lads can show how good they really are.

All i can say is dont let leeds bully us like the dud the other season and we should win.Im expecting them to get a lot of decisions so we need to start tough snd fast

I don’t think that is a poor record especially when Leeds were very dominant in their ‘golden’ era of Sinfield, Burrow, McGuire, Senior, Peacock JJB etc
