Wonder what the record is for most tried and assists in a season combined and how far off French is?

While the Super League site is terrible when it comes to accurate record keeping, particularly for previous years, there are some stats on there.

Ben Barba had 52 combined tries and assists in 2018 (28 tries, 24 assists)
Luke Gale had 52 in 2016 (6 tries, 46 assists)

But the most I could find was Sam Tomkins in 2012 with 61 (28 tries, 33 assists).

The records are incomplete though. Denny Solomona scored 40 tries in 2016 but his stats aren't there. One year Danny McGuire scored about 35 tries but not sure how many assists he got that year but chances are there were a few.

In terms of records, I think Bevan French holds the record for the most prolific try scoring season in Super League history at 1.55 tries per game last season. At his current rate of scoring Abbas Miski would be 6th on that list.

Excellent.

Assuming McGuire got a heap of assists, French could well be number 5 for most combined tries and assists.

Not a bad turnout.

very crudely a lot better

i've just looked at the top 20 try scorers

we have 4 in the top 10, and Jake Wardle in 12th

Catalan have Johnstone and Davies in top 10, with Keighran 16th
Saints have Makinson in 4th

https://www.superleague.co.uk/stats/player-stats

i know that's only looking at the top 20 try scorers, but does show how the backs have performed this year in terms of tries. I havent bothered to take everything else into account, but our 5 backs named above had all made over 2000m

Stats show Tom Johnstone had an outstanding year in the South of France

Edit you can click on the metric in the table and change from Tries to Metres Made, we still come out very well on that as Faz and King appear too. No saints player in top 20. Johnstone and Davies in top5

Thanks, Josie. I'd normally look the up, but struggling with web access at the moment.
