Controversial at times especially with us let’s hope he keeps those red cards in his pocket

Hopefully the lads don’t give him a chance to show one

Despite a hint of 'not wanting to favour Wigan' bias (not really shown in his last game reffing us if I remember correctly), I still think he's one of the best refs.

He was ineffectual, inadequate and poor for both sides.
The tragedy is that we will get him for either the semi or the final as he is the current RFL favourite son.
Too many irrational decisions to count but typical was the last action of the first half. O'Neill is tackled as the hooter sounds - he gets a clear stiff arm to the jaw. It should have been a straightforward penalty with one more play for Wigan. Would it have made a difference? Probably not but it doesn't matter.

A totally different view for us last night, instead of high in the south we were on row c on the side. This gave us a perfect view of the ref and it was obvious he was going to be relaxed on offside. Both teams did it and the ref allowed. This stifled the attack of both teams and resulted in a tough battle. Great to see the big hits live, and even better to see Charnley’s reaction to being hurtled into touch. The biggest problem with the ref is he can’t make his own decision therefore follows the rule to the letter. Both were tries, both to the letter of the law wasn’t. Think French should’ve done a Leeds and gone down.

A classic example of that was when Briscoe was pushed back over the line for what would have been a drop-out. Moore signalled that his feet were off the ground and brought play back to where the feet were raised. Quite correct (although Briscoe himself lifted his legs not the Wigan players) but I can't recall seeing that kind of decision given in living memory and it's the inconsistency that makes fans despair.
Also, French's late in the match 'high shot' which was nothing of the kind as the arm started on the shoulder and never touched the face. Add to that, the numerous tackles that involved a grasp round the opponent's throat and it's understandable just why fans have a declining trust in referees to do the right thing.
