Well hooked, no bait needed!DaveO wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 7:54 pmThat would be seriously bad management. If the club need to get rid of a quota player who is contracted to the club next season that player should be Isa. Especially if the player being brought in is a forward.
Giving Isa a contract for 2024 (as they have done) and offloading Field would be sheer lunacy.

Sorry assumed you meant Owen. Agree re Liam he’s not a 13.nathan_rugby wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 2:14 pmI was thinking about Liam Farrell, apologies.Jonh wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 12:22 pmFor me 13 is the position he is undoubtedly most suited to in League. Not worth it, wouldn’t generate much extra revenue to make the gimmick worthwhile.
If Farrell was going to play 13 then fair enough, but he is not suited to 13 and hopefully the club won’t entertain it.
He would have to improve certain aspects of his game, predominantly his rugby league conditioning however in my opinion he has all the tools to be a very good 13.
Surely Owen Farrell would be 6 or 7 in league rather than a 13?
I think should Owen come he would be used in the pack with back up option in the halves.
I’m not sure he is dynamic enough these days to play as a specialist half.
I could see him in a utility role across the backrow halves and centres.

Re: Field to Catalan
I wouldn’t be happy with signing a 32 year old Owen Farrell who hasn’t played RL since being a child especially if we lose a 26 year old Jai Field who, IMO, should be tied down long term, along with a 27 year old Bevan French. Hopefully to finish their careers at Wigan Warriors
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Liam Farrell played 13 in the academy

Re: Field to Catalan
It would more likely be a Smithies / O Farrell swap IMO. I don't think it affects Fields position. But if Smithies is leaving, maybe that's going to open a spot for Owen at 13?josie andrews wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 5:21 pm I wouldn’t be happy with signing a 32 year old Owen Farrell who hasn’t played RL since being a child especially if we lose a 26 year old Jai Field who, IMO, should be tied down long term, along with a 27 year old Bevan French. Re: Field to Catalan
All conjecture to a large degree on my part.
I would rather we have news that Smithies as signed long term personally or that Jai as signed up for four more years and so on.
I can't see Owen being signed for Field. I thought Matty Peet said that the other day re no changes to our halves and no signings in that position to come in...... So
I could only make things fit with the 13 shirt and rumours re Smithies leaving which seems to have legs of kinds with the agent thing and no new long term deal announcement. I was told a while back re Owen Farrell so I have been looking for clues that fit that narrative, and how things could work . I also maybe have read into things with the information coming from a very decent source and tried to slot them into place.
I still think it unlikely but then I can make some tedious connections fit guess we will see next few weeks.
Just to add I would hate to see players leave I think the teams younger players are hitting maturity just as the generation at Saints is ending I believe if things fall correctly this could be a very good period for us.
