The Leigh game will be changed as the date, 24th February, is the WCC game 😊
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

R1 & R3 Fixtures confirmed

Ahead of the full 2024 Betfred Super League fixture release on Thursday morning, Wigan’s R1 & R3 fixtures have been confirmed.

The Betfred Super League Champions will travel to the Mend-A-Hose Jungle to face Castleford Tigers in Round 1 on Saturday 17th February (3pm K.O.)

Wigan will host their first home Betfred Super League tie in Round 3 of the competition, as we welcome Huddersfield Giants to the DW Stadium on Friday 1st March (8pm K.O.)

As confirmed earlier in the week, the Warriors will face St Helens at Magic Weekend in 2024, which will take place at it’s sixth new venue since the concept began in 2007, this time at the home of Leeds United FC, Elland Road. The clash is the second match of the 2024 Magic Weekend and will take place on Saturday 17th August.

Finally, Betfred Super League have also confirmed the ‘Rivals Round’ this evening. Which will see the classic Good Friday derby between Wigan and St Helens take place at The Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday 29th March (3pm K.O.)

Full 2024 Betfred Super League fixture will be announced at 8:30am tomorrow (Thursday 23rd November).

Makes me think the WCC isn’t quite sealed yet but hopefully they get it over the line.

I’m stumped as to why Leigh at home wasn’t the first game for us. We’ve not had a home opener for ages, it’s a loop fixture opponent, it’s League Champions vs Cup Holders, it’s a local rivalry, Degsy would build the feeling around it moaning about obstructions and so on and on. If the WCC is on, we may well now play Leigh in a midweek, part way through the season. That will reduce what could’ve been a 20,000 crowd by 7,000 or 8,000. The powers that be just seem totally incapable of running the sport.

If I'm reading things correctly 10 of our first 14 fixtures are away from home. What a way to get the crowds for the champions flooding in and will mean that most of our home fixtures will be during the main holiday season!! I know that we are always affected by the pitch maintenance issue but this seems ridiculous.
