Saturday 20th January pre season friendly

Academy and Reserves to face Midlands

Warriors’ Academy/Reserves to play friendly against Midlands Hurricanes.

Game to take place at Alexander Stadium on Saturday 20th January at 2:00pm.

Friendly will mark new dual registration agreement.

Wigan Warriors will take a mixture of Academy and Reserves players to face Midlands Hurricanes at Alexander Stadium on Saturday 20th January at 2:00pm.

The game has been scheduled as part of a new dual registration agreement with the Hurricanes that will benefit some of Wigan’s younger players.

The link with the League One Club will offer some of Wigan’s transition players the opportunity to gain valuable and regular first-team experience and play competitive Rugby League to help with their development.

The arrangement between the two Clubs will see Wigan players continue to be registered to the Warriors and also registered to play for the Hurricanes.

When a Wigan player goes on dual registration to Hurricanes, that player will be eligible to play and train with both clubs. The player is restricted to play in one fixture per scheduled round of fixtures in any given week and would not be eligible to play twice for Hurricanes and Wigan during the same weekend.

Tickets for the friendly on Saturday 20th January are available online from Midlands Hurricanes HERE. Pay on the day will also be available, but with a price increase from advance sales.

Please note that due to operational reasons this game will be taking place in the arena opposite the main stadium, where the Hurricanes played during the 2023 season.

Speaking on the dual registration agreement, Head of Youth Shane Eccles said: “Midlands have been building for a few years now and moving into a new stadium this year is helping develop them and expand Rugby League to a wider audience.

“This partnership is an opportunity for our young players to experience playing at a different level alongside helping the midlands develop further, both on and off the field. We look forward to working with Mark Dunning and giving our players a new opportunity in their development along our pathway.”

Anyone know if it is on WiganTV? All the pre-season fixtures have been in previous years.

It might be helpful if the press statement said where the hell Alexander Stadium is/was!

Are we meant to be psychic?
