The future of the Super League Grand Final is in danger with Manchester United reportedly considering a move to build a new stadium in a move that would spell the end of Old Trafford.

According to reports, Old Trafford and new investor and Head of Football Department Sir Jim Radcliffe is considering a move to build a new stadium in the carpark at Old Trafford which would replace the current stadium which would presumably be demolished.

Talksport are among those who have reported Sir Jim Radcliffe’s ambition to build a so called “Wembley of the North.”

They explained the situation with the following: “Old Trafford’s problems have been well documented and is in dire need of renovation. A leaking roof, cramped concourses, inadequate legroom, crumbling concrete, flaking paintwork and a lack of space to expand are just some of the issues identified.

“INEOS and Ratcliffe took over football operations of the Man United after purchasing a 25 per cent stake in the club.

“Addressing the issue of the stadium would go a long way with fans to show he is serious in caring for the club

This is something Tottenham did with White Hart Lane and moved their home games to Wembley while construction took place.”

Talksport have agreed a deal to continue to cover Super League in 2024 and beyond.

There has been a suggestion that the Super League Grand Final could be headed to a new stadium with the Grand Final deal with Old Trafford due to expire.

There have been conflicting reports that the sport could be looking for a new home whilst others have reported that the RFL is set to extend the deal with Old Trafford.

Stadiums like the Manchester City’s Etihad, Newcastle United’s St James’ Park and Liverpool’s Anfield have all been suggested all of which are former homes of the Magic Weekend.

2022 Challenge Cup Final venue the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium has also been linked but it is likely that the decider will remain in the North of England.

If this move is made by Manchester United it will be interesting to see if the Grand Final leaves Old Trafford permanently or if they take some time out and return to the new stadium.

Another sensationalist headline from serious about rl. What's the problem? The Grand Final will simply be moved if necessary. There's nothing to worry about so long as it doesn't move to Elland Road.

Sadly, we can't rule that out, though!
