Game Sold Out?

Post by Ipinwigan »

Why, when the sold out signs were up, were there still empty seats and a crowd figure of only 24,091, when the capacity is 25,032?
Is this another RFL cock up?

The actual capacity for the DW is 25,133. But H&S rules that it cannot have a full capacity now.

The Good Friday game v St Helens in 2005 was 25,004 & was the highest ever recorded.

The Good Friday game at the DW in 2023 was 24,274

Past attendances
2023 – Good Friday 24,275
2019 – Good Friday 22,050
2019 – World Club Challenge 21,331
2017 – Good Friday 23,390
2015 – Good Friday 24,054
2013 – Good Friday 23,861
2011 – Good Friday 24,057
2011 – World Club Challenge 24,268
2009 – Good Friday 22,332
2007 – Good Friday 24,028
2005 – Good Friday 25,004

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

So what is the official, reduced H&S capacity now, and was 24,091 still below it?
It still dosen't look good on TV, when the sold out signs are up, to see empty seats.

Doesn’t look good to who?

Who really cares?

It was jam packed, it sold out weeks ago and was a great advert for Rugby League and specifically English Rugby League.

Surely there's a difference in tickets sold and actual attendees ? If people dont 'attend' they cant be included in the 'attendance' its about scanned turnstile tickets isnt it ?

I'm not sure about that. I'd probably guess it would go off number of tickets sold as opposed to tickets scanned into the ground as during the season, season tickets are always counted in the attendance

no, a lot is down to football fans (away fans) who have been happily ripping up seats when they have played the Latics, and that was well documented when the tickets were on sale

the new owners of the stadium have tried to consolidate them into specific areas ( it looked like there was a block at the South stand end of the East, that was partially populated)

so we sell out 6 weeks before the game, and it looks like we are still finding reasons to gripe about? We should be using it to get back into the fans that attended to get them there again on Friday if they arent a ST holder

Well in fact I am not a season ticket holder, attended on Saturday and have purchased my ticket for Friday.
The ticketing system is my next GRIPE, as the email I have been sent does not include the ticket to be printed and the download link doesn't work.
I have emailed the ticket office and await a reply, but I shouldn't need to have done that, as last year's ticket system worked perfectly fine.

There are hundreds of damaged seats In the stadium that were found as part of a H and S review and they’ve moved them in to corners of the stands. Jukesays confirmed it on RLFans a few weeks back. You could see they’d been put in the ends of the east stand and some small blocks at the bottom of the other 3 stands. The place needs a bomb spending on it apparently and new seats will be part of that.

For the football hooligans to smash them up again??

They smashed Whelan’s bar up on Friday night, it was supposed to be used for corporate attendees on Saturday but it had to be closed! Fecking eejits🤬
