Video footage appears to show a Leigh Leopards official throwing a bottle at a supporter after their defeat to St Helens.

Video footage of a Leigh Leopards official appearing to throw a bottle at a supporter has emerged online. Unsavoury scenes in the aftermath of Leigh's defeat to St Helens were captured and posted on social media in an incident that took place in front of spectators and players.

The footage, which has gone viral across social media, shows an unidentified figure wearing Leigh Leopards attire having a conversation with another person, with the pair separated by a metal gate. But the footage then takes an ugly turn when the spectator appears to respond, which prompts some of the Leigh players to hold back the figure. However, that doesn't stop the person from appearing to throw an object, which strikes the spectator on the head before bouncing away.

A number of Leigh's players are also visible in the footage including John Asiata, who is seen using crutches during the clip after he suffered a calf injury in the game. Asiata had been involved in a flashpoint before his injury, being sin binned for a tackle in the opening minute of the game. Last year, Asiata came under criticism after he was involved in tackles that resulted in four St Helens players being injured during the Challenge Cup semi-final.

Despite some people moving to name the person involved in the incident, the identity of the people involved has yet to be verified. What is clear from the footage is the sight of Asiata appearing to point and shout in the direction of the spectator involved in the exchange. Other Leigh players who didn't feature in the match, such as Umyla Hanley, Tom Nisbet and Tom Amone, also appear in the footage.

Is Adrian Lam just bad for culture?

He comes across a bit of a party boy with his look but his team contains people like hardaker who somehow has a job still and now this.

It was said to be Chris Chester on social media but looks nothing like him.

Apparently the Saints fan shouted to Asiata he hoped he died when he was leaving the field due to injury.

The Leigh contingent in the directors box were subjected to constant abuse from St Helens hospitality also.

Pathetic club Saints.

RFL to investigate incident at St Helens involving Leigh Leoprds Official

THE RFL has confirmed that it will be investigating an incident at St Helens on Friday night which involved an official from the Leigh Leopards.

The Leigh official and a fan were separated by a metal gate but the exchange turned ugly when voices appeared to be raised before the official had to be held back by members of the Leigh squad, including the likes of John Asiata and Tom Nisbet.

An object was eventually thrown that bounced off the supporters’ head before both men were separated as other supporters and Leigh representatives looked on.

It is unclear who the official is. The RFL were approached for comment by League Express, with the governing body confirming that an investigation will be held to look into the incident.

That will be followed up using reports from the match commissioner and the ground safety officer in the usual way following all rugby league fixtures.

It was a costly night all round for the Leopards with John Asiata and Tom Briscoe tearing their calves and Gareth O’Brien having to leave the field with concussion.
