WOLVESWarrington Wolves granted RFL dispensation to help name 21-man squad

Post by josie andrews »

Warrington Wolves have been granted dispensation from the RFL to recall a young loanee within the ordinary two-week period.

Loan deals are quite often announced as two-week deals before often being extended on a rolling basis and that’s because two-week deals are the minimum that clubs can agree to providing they aren’t dual registration partners.

It’s a ruling that protects the club loaning the player in from having the player snatched back from them, however, Warrington Wolves have now recalled young prop Max Wood within that two-week period

Wood was loaned to Bradford Bulls just over a week ago with the Bulls confirming on March 26th that they had brought the young prop in on a two-week deal, alongside Huddersfield’s Connor Carr.

The 19-year-old played for the Bulls on Good Friday and managed to bag a try in the 29-10 win over Halifax Panthers, but this Friday he could find himself lining up against Leeds Rhinos having been recalled by Sam Burgess.

With Warrington experiencing a shortage at prop in their senior team and reserve grade due to a number of reasons, Serious About Rugby League can reveal that Warrington were granted RFL dispensation to recall Wood within the standard period.

Wire will be without Paul Vaughan due to suspension for the next two games whilst both Joe Philbin and Zane Musgrove failed head injury assessments (HIA) in the loss to Catalans Dragons.

Strange that several years ago we couldn’t raise a team from within the club as there was severe sickness throughout & asked for either the game to be rearranged of forfeit. We weren’t allowed either.

We played Wakefield with ill players being physically sick on the pitch when we lost 62 - 0!

Surely the rule is in place to prevent this type of scenario?

Otherwise, what is the point of the rule?

The management at Warrington appears not to have improved. It will be interesting to see if Woody plays.

I remember that farce of a game al to well Josie, not having a go at the players who did their best that day but it was utterly ludicrous that it was played at all.
