Super League disciplinary
The Round 15 Super League disciplinary findings have been confirmed with five players across the competition being banned, however, only one will miss an actual Super League game.
That is because Super League sides are set to once again use the exploitative loophole of selecting players for Reserves fixtures, thereby avoiding a ban for the first team.
Of the five players banned, four clubs are represented and three of those clubs have Reserve team fixtures this coming weekend. As such, it means that each of the three players will likely serve the ban during that game as opposed to in the Round 16 Super League games in early July.
Disciplinary loophole to be exposed
Those players are London Broncos’ Emmanuel Waine, St Helens’ Sione Mata’utia and Huddersfield Giants’ Elliot Wallis, all of whom had been handed a one-match ban.
The trio will serve their bans in their respective sides’ Reserve team games with London facing Wakefield Trinity on the road, Saints facing Warrington away and Huddersfield hosting Wigan Warriors.
Catalans Dragons have also had two players banned but with the club not having a Reserve team fixture this weekend, it means they are unable to utilise the Super League disciplinary ‘loophole’.
That means that both Michael McIlorum and Arthur Romano will have to serve their bans, however, French centre Romano will likely serve his this weekend as he would have almost certainly been called up to play for France against England on Saturday evening in Toulouse.
It’s a big blow for France but for Catalans it means that they’ll have Romano back for the club’s Round 16 clash against Hull KR at Craven Park, a very stiff test given the Robins’ impressive home form under Willie Peters.
