Saints name 20-man squad for derby clash at Wigan Warriors
SAINTS coach Paul Wellens has named an initial 20-man squad for Friday’s away fixture at Wigan Warriors, but will make a decision on the last place tonight.
Hooker Moses Mbye will also - at the moment - miss out having been handed a one-match penalty notice by the Match Review Panel.
The club appealed at the Operational Rules Tribunal on Tuesday evening but the ban was upheld.
However, Saints will be appealing the decision from the ORT this evening (Wednesday) and if successful Mbye will then be added into the squad declaration to bring the Saints squad up to 21-men.
Hooker Daryl Clark is named after missing last week.
Packman Sione Mata’utia will miss out due to a neck injury.
Friday's debutants Jake Burns and Jonny Vaughan retain their places in Wellens’ squad.
Should packman Leon Cowen and 1 or 6 Harry Robertson play it would be their first official appearances for the Saints.

Taylor Kerr is a good prospect and has broken into the Reserves as a 2nd row/loose. He has good instincts but I don't think he has shown dummy half play of note yet.Firestarter wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 12:51 pm So go on whos gonna play hooker? Apologies, Kerr does distribute from dummy half off the bench a fair bit - need to look at Wigan TV closer

Keighran has prior experience but I'd be very nervous about having such a young right edge with Eckersley, Farrimond and Nsemba alongside each other. Ideally you'd have experience alongside young players. Farrimond was targeted at times against Leigh and while Eckersley is a strong defender physically, there were times when he was caught out in terms of positioning and decision making. I think Keighran makes that side a bit stronger.Firestarter wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 12:51 pm So go on whos gonna play hooker? Since a back row forward has been brought into the squad it could be Farrell. The benefit of having Farrell play 9 is that he's one of our best defenders and it allows him to move across the field and cover all areas. He's got good hands and should have the fitness levels to play the hardest working position on the field. The negatives would be whether it would stunt our attack. Being a decent ball player and playing number 9 are very different things, as we found when Joe Shorrocks was played there.

Re: Wigan squads for Derby double-header
Can somebody please explain why saints can appeal again after failing yesterday? They seem to be trying to put undue pressure on the tribunal. It also implies they're really worried about Clarke's fitness which would be good news for us. If they fail this time (and they should) I hope Mbye is given another match to add to his ban.
Re: Wigan squads for Derby double-header
Is there a limit to how many times they can appeal the ban?
