One of Super League's biggest acquisitions in recent years appears to have been made.
Catalans Dragons have landed a stunning coup after completing the signing of Tevita Pangai Jr. The prop, one of the leading forwards in the NRL, is said to have signed a one-year contract with the French club next season.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the 28-year-old has informed the Dolphins that he will be heading to Super League next year, turning down the opportunity to join Wayne Bennett at South Sydney Rabbitohs.
An NRL champion in 2021, Pangai Jr has returned to the sport after a brief stint in the world of boxing, signing for the Dolphins in June and wasting little time rediscovering top form.
A New South Wales representative last year, Pangai Jr has made 144 NRL appearances, establishing himself as one of the competition's premier props. His arrival will be an outstanding coup for the Dragons, whose recruitment drive for 2025 has now gone to another level. They have already secured signings for Luke Keary, Nick Cotric, Elliott Whitehead, Tommy Makinson and Oli Partington, but the arrival on Pangai jr arguably tops them all.
Catalans are currently going through a tough spell in Super League and are sixth in the competition after a shock loss to London Broncos at the weekend. However, they look destined to be contenders next year.
